Rosanne Cash to introduce music from her upcoming album The List in special showcase performance at Nashville’s Country Music Hall of Fame© and Museum on September 15th, 2009

Premiere Event, Co-Hosted By The Museum and BMI, celebrates acclaimed Singer-Songwriter’s return to Nashville to showcase songs from The List

Due October 6th, The List features contemporary interpretations of songs from a list of Essential Country Songs passed on to Cash by her legendary father

With her first-ever covers album The List due from Manhattan Records on October 6, 2009, acclaimed singer-songwriter Rosanne Cash and her band will showcase several of its stunning songs at a very special invitation-only performance event at the Country Music Hall of Fame© and Museum in Nashville on September 15th, 2009.

Rosanne Cash has accepted this invitation to return to Nashville to showcase The List at an event co-hosted by the Museum and Broadcast Music, Inc. [BMI] as a way to honor her father Johnny’s legacy, as well as to pay tribute to the artists whose songs she re-interprets, and to the songs themselves. Each song was written or popularized by a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame or by an artist who seems destined for that honor. Most of the songs are licensed by BMI.

The List features Cash’s contemporary interpretations of 12 classic songs culled from a list of essential country tunes that Johnny gave her in 1973, and filtered through her own unique perspective.

Produced and arranged by Grammy Award winner John Leventhal (Cash’s husband), the album includes Cash’s covers of songs written and/or recorded by The Carter Family (“Bury Me Under the Weeping Willow”), Hank Williams (“Take These Chains From My Heart”), Jimmie Rodgers (“Miss The Mississippi and You”), Hank Cochran/Patsy Cline (“She’s Got You”), Merle Haggard (“Silver Wings”), and Bob Dylan (“Girl From the North Country,” famously done by Dylan and Johnny Cash in 1969).

“I could not think of a more perfect union of entities to launch The List than myself, the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, which is the repository and protector of so many important treasures and artifacts of my family, and BMI, my performing-rights organization for the past 35 years, which comprises my entire life as a songwriter,” Cash says. “The songs on The List are the very songs that BMI and the Hall of Fame exist to honor, share, archive, and perpetuate. I am thrilled to premiere The List with the family-like support of both organizations, in a city where these songs have never faded in relevancy.”

“Rosanne’s new collection is as cutting edge and deeply personal as anything she has ever recorded,” says Museum Director Kyle Young. “By making them her own, she has made each of these historically important songs sound newly minted. With her quicksilver, drop-dead voice and careful interpretation of these golden standards, Rosanne gives us proof positive that the past has meaning in the present. As we endeavor to preserve the many chapters of country music’s evolving history so that new generations can understand and benefit from its cultural importance, we welcome Rosanne Cash as country-music royalty. We are honored to join BMI in presenting Rosanne’s premiere performance of music from The List.”

“This project combines a great BMI artist, Rosanne, and timeless songs with the blessing of Johnny Cash,” says Jody Williams, BMI’s vice president of writer-publisher relations. “This significant slice of BMI’s repertoire is cast in the most respectful and artistic light, so we’re very proud to be involved.”

For their 2nd LP, The Dynamites and their soul-shouting frontman deliver a slate of tunes that arrives right on time.

It’s a new day and Charles Walker and his band have something to say. The kind of story where you gotta tear it down to rebuild it, the greedy man ultimately gets his due, love rules the day and everybody gets down in the end. It’s a timeless tale, as relevant as ever, and it’s told here in a righteously funky fashion. Strike a match, light the fuse and BURN IT DOWN!

As the New York Times hailed:

“New York City has the Dap-Kings, Nashville has the Dynamites, whose approach is about three quarters James Brown with touches of Memphis, Motown and New Orleans. [And] The Dynamites have found a singer to put them across: Charles Walker, who has been on the soul circuit since the 1960s. His voice rivals better-known headliners; he’s an authoritative, gospel-steeped shouter and a dramatic ballad builder. It’s old-school music that works up a genuine sweat.”

The Dynamites are: Charles Walker (vocals), Bill Elder, a.k.a. Leo Black (guitar), Chris West (saxophones and flute), Jon-Paul Frappier (trumpet), Charles Treadway and Tyrone Dickerson (organ), Chris Patterson (percussion), Derrek Phillips (drums), Jonathan Jackson (saxophone) and Rich Brinsfield (bass).

Nashville Showcase Added! Cetan Plays the 5 Spot Tuesday, August 18th

Sessions with Chris Layton of SRV’s Legendary Double Trouble – Songs to be Released as Digital 45 August 25th

Cetan Clawson’s Debut White Heat In Stores Now

“…an act of absolute genius and perfect quality musicianship. Meet the boy genius and remember his name: Cetan Clawson.” – REAL DETROIT WEEKLY

Cetan Clawson will be featured in the closed beta trial of MTV Games’ Rock Band Network!

Rock Band Network (created by Harmonix Music Systems and MTV Games) is a spanking new innovative network that allows artists and labels to publish their music as playable Rock Band tracks. They’ll be available through the newly created Rock Band Network Store, scheduled to launch on Rock Band 2 for the X-Box 360 before the end of 2009.

The Network is currently in the beta stage, only a handful of artists have had the opportunity to train at Harmonix and learn to transcribe songs into playable Rock Band tracks.

RockGamer Studios owner Miquel Molinari weighs in on Cetan, “We’re honored to author Cetan’s challenging riffs and unique style for inclusion in the Rock Band Network. To all expert guitarists we say, ‘Have fun trying to conquer this one!’ Both Cetan and his manager Ramsey Dean have been a pleasure to work with, and we hope our partnership leads to more Cetan Clawson on Rock Band in the near future.”

Cetan’s single, “White Heat” is one of a very select list of tracks that will be available as soon as the store launches. On Rock Band, users will employ the game peripherals (USB guitars, drums and microphones) to match the song’s vocals, guitar, bass and drum tracks. Users will have to match Cetan’s wild riffs and solos note-for-note, which will be challenging for even the most accomplished Rock Band virtuosos! “I think it’d be cool to see how high people score doing the guitar tricks I do on stage (playing behind their head, behind their back, etc.) and post that to Youtube,” laughed Cetan.

Cetan’s latest recordings were produced by the great blues drummer, Chris Layton, best known for his work in Double Trouble with Stevie Ray Vaughan, Storyville and the Arc Angels.

Clawson remembers, “When you’re recording with someone who has played with Stevie Ray Vaughan, Buddy Guy, Kenny Wayne Shepherd and so many others, it’s such a great feeling, and all around a phenomenal experience. It was a real honor working with Chris Layton and Scott Nelson.”

Visit www.cetanclawson.com to see a mini-documentary with footage of the sessions, an interview with Cetan and live performances.

Cetan’s debut album, ‘White Heat’ is in stores now on 8th Impression/Fontana, but since he recorded it at the wise old age of 17, he is eager to provide fans with new songs. To that end, the tunes from his session with Layton and Kenny Wayne Shepherd bassist Scott Nelson will be released as a 45 download! “Everyday Blues” and “I Wanna Try” were recorded on June 25th and 26th, and will be available through iTunes, Rhapsody, Wal-mart and Best Buy’s online stores on August 25, 2009.

And what better time for the return of the guitar god? As kids everywhere rediscover actual playing in both the games and on YouTube, and punk stagnates in a morass of mascara and morality, Cetan doesn’t just commit heresy by playing leads; he plays them behind his head, behind his back, left-handed, right-handed, one handed and even with his teeth, boasting a style that can’t be matched by guitarist nor gamer.

“I have one small chip from a slight mishap before I practiced it a lot,” he says with a laugh. “It takes a great deal of skill.” Clawson himself admits that while the game exposes “the kids” to the artistry of the guitar, he thinks that hours spent playing the game would be better as hours spent playing the actual instrument.

See Cetan playing “Star Spangled Banner” with his teeth in honor of armed forces everywhere:

Watch video:

It’s been years since John Mayer emerged as the new guitar ace whose job it was to re-introduce the blues to a younger audience. Cetan Clawson is now poised as heir to that lineage, pushing into new territory with a skill and acumen.

With the national release of his debut, his new partnership with Rock Band Network and the guidance and mentorship of blues stars like Layton, Clawson is well on his way.

Larry Reddington isn’t a new kid on the block. Not by any means. At age of 67 (68 in July) he’s been spicing up people’s lives musically since the 1950’s. From Oxford, England and originally a drummer, Larry has some pretty interesting rock n roll stories to tell, and often does if you visit him in his guitar shop (The Music Box).

When I asked him who influenced him to start playing he said, “No one really. Basically I couldn’t write songs on the drums so I decided to learn the guitar and I suppose working in a guitar shop is a good place to practice.”

Download track: “When You Gonna Learn” MP3

Last year Mr. Reddington travelled to America and went to Nashville. He was taken by the place. That country bug had bit him hard, and not too long after, he returned once more to the home of everything country. This time he recorded a CD – ‘When You Gonna Learn?’ – to take with him. While there, he visited the Elvis house in Memphis – which he was not impressed by. He only wanted to see the toilet that killed the king. But it wasn’t on the tour.

While in Nashville Larry got to play a couple of gigs. He played one night at The Full Moon Saloon and the second at The Nashville Palace. He also flogged a few CDs too. So not a bad outing after all.

‘When You Gonna Learn?’ is a 3 track EP and starts off with the title song, which when you think about it, Larry only started to dabble with guitar and vocals 5 years ago, and he sounds as good as any cowboy from Texas with or without a horse. Larry doesn’t need a stallion when he has the Cowley Flyer bus to take him home in an evening, but I digress. “When You Gonna Learn” has some brilliant lap steel guitar courtesy of Simon Tuke, who also plays bass on the EP. Coming out of retirement for Larry, is one Dave Herbert who performs lead guitar duties on the first track. Why would you retire when you can get the guitar to sound like that? And following up the rear on banjo and dobro is an ex band mate of mine Mr. Stefan D Hamilton.

Larry says he will be recording more tracks soon to turn the EP into an LP. But before that he is drumming with a reformation of a band called Steam who were originally around in the 1970’s. They will be playing at The Regal on Cowley Road, Oxford, Saturday 30th May 2009. Now that is well worth checking out. Go see Larry Reddington and his friends and tell them Dave Tommo sent you!

This is a CD that should be in the collection of any avid country fan.

Recently we interviewed Ben Romans (The Click Five), Cassie Petrey and Jade Driver from The One Love. They’ve been keeping busy blogging at The One Love website, where a community of bloggers have come together in support of their chosen charities. All profits collected from traffic to each blog page, from banner ads, are donated to the bloggers’ charity of choice. Ben, Cassie and Jade have also been traveling and putting on events for The One Love, including a recent songwriters show in London.

The One Love interview with BandWeblogs.com
By: Jenny May and Dave Tommo

BandWeblogs.com: What is The One Love?

Ben Romans: The One Love is a place to blog about your passion with music and the things that surround it, while supporting the charity of the blogger’s choice.

Who is behind The One Love?

Ben: It all started with Cassie Petrey, Jade Driver, and myself…and Cassie and Jade are the web whizzes…but really it’s the awesome bloggers who share their thoughts with us.

How did Ben, Cassie and Jade meet?

Ben: Waaaaaay back when, my band was starting to tour. Cassie and Jade were both helping promote and get things rocking.

Cassie: I was working for the Warner Music Group at the time, and The Click Five signed to Atlantic (which is part of WMG) while I was with the company. Jade and I then came across The Click Five and decided they were our new favorite band, and wanted to help promote the band in every way possible.

What gave you the inspiration to embark on The One Love mission?

Ben: I think that artists sometimes aren’t allowed to talk about why they really do music, so we figured why not start a community, even better, a charitable community.

Jade: Let’s just say I missed one show to see another, not my choice, and it was the best decision anyone else has ever made for me. I think my inspiration for The One Love began the day I first saw Ben’s band, The Click Five, in concert and realized that this music was some of the best pop music I had ever heard and I made it my mission to tell the world it existed and to make sure it got the respect it deserved. Cassie was in that boat too.

Years later Cassie, Ben and I were discussing this topic and thus the idea began. We went through over a year of throwing back and forth ideas, designs and names for the site. We put a lot of work and heart into making this site the best it could be and are still in the growing process, making changes constantly. We hope that the site can help people channel their energy to help others through the inspiration of people that they can relate with and look up to.

How did the current bloggers on The One Love website get involved and how can other people join in?

Ben: Friends, friends through friends…so forth and so on.

Cassie: Right now, the best way to join in is by visiting the site and reading what all the bloggers have to say. Just by doing that, people are raising money for the various organizations that the site supports. However, we will eventually open up the site to anyone who wants to blog for charity.

How are the bloggers helping The One Love mission?

Cassie: Just by sharing their thoughts and promoting the site to their already existing fan base, they are raising awareness and funds for an organization that they support. We wanted to create a place where people could give back without donating money out of their pocket, and that’s exactly what we’re doing!

Ben: The great thing about a community is…if a fan checks out an artist, they may discover another artist on the site who they enjoy, and it spreads like wildfire. The bloggers have the opportunity to promote what they do, and their charity if they wish. Bloggers will also have the opportunity to participate in events down the road if things keep rocking.

Other than being a blogger, how else can people get involved in The One Love?

Ben: Support the artists, and their charities. Come check out events…we have some coming up…and just keep checking out the site for info!

The One Love was recently in England. How did you spread the word about the mission while you were there?

Ben: We did a special songwriter’s show with myself and James Bourne for The One Love. Stop The Traffik is also based in London, and we met to discuss how we could help each other out.

Cassie: I think this trip was more about laying down the groundwork for The One Love in the UK, rather than trying to get the word out to everyone possible. We really wanted to expose the site to key tastemakers…if that makes any sense. Our Stop The Traffik meeting was really inspiring, and made us realize how much we could do to help. We also have some new potential bloggers, which is always good!

Do you have any good stories that you would like to share about your experiences in London?

Ben: We had an absolute blast, especially with the songwriter show…many friends in the same room…good times. When you’re in a whirlwind, it’s hard to narrow it down to just one story.

Jade: I will say that this was not my favorite trip to England. Every travel delay/problem that could have happened, did happen. But, it was well worth the journey and we came back with some memories we won’t often forget. I believe my favorite moment was when leaving a McFly concert in Bournemouth; I looked at Cassie and told her we needed to leave when the last song began since we were parked on the 12th floor of a parking deck and we had a few hours drive ahead of us. Our sleep schedule was whack and any time I could save was time for me to sleep.

So, right before the last song the lights are up on the audience and Cassie begins to leave. I grabbed her arm and told her not to because she would be called out. She shrugged me off and continued up the stairs with our friend Cathy. I began to sneak out too when I heard, “Hey you, what are you doing!?” I jumped back in my seat and looked up at Cassie. She glared at me with the “why aren’t you following me” look and I pointed to the stage and said, “They are yelling at you!” Her face quickly turned red under her white hat and Tom yells at her “Why are you leaving? Everybody can see you! Danny follows with, “Hey you! Hey, girl in the white hat. It’s okay if you have diarrhea and have to leave. We understand.” Classic.

Cassie: Yes, I enjoyed Bournemouth as well. We also had a 4am encounter with Old Greg, which was quite exciting.

So, Cassie – we read in your blog that you had some transport issues while in England. What’s your opinion of the British transport system?

Cassie: I absolutely LOVE the British transport system. Getting on a train and being able to go pretty much anywhere in the country is just absolutely amazing. I wish that option existed in the US. There’s some trains that even had wireless internet…and that is AWESOME. The tube is really great too…I like it a lot better than the subway system in New York. We tried out driving while we were there this time, which wasn’t as bad as we thought it would be. A little tricky since it was on the opposite side of the road, but we managed. My only complaints are the small roads and lack of street signs. Other than that, we were good to go.

Do you plan on taking The One Love mission to other countries?

Cassie: Yes, of course. Singapore, Malaysia, and many other Asian countries are some of The One Love’s top trafficking countries, and we would love to get out there eventually.

Where has been the most welcoming place that you’ve visited so far?

Jade: Definitely Nottingham, where The One Love was born.

Cassie: Yes. I will forever be a fan of Nottingham. We met some absolutely amazing people there.

How did the songwriting showcase come about and who was involved with the one in London? What happens during a showcase?

Jade: In Nashville you find a lot of songwriters. Cassie and I currently live and run our business out of Nashville, TN. Ben lived here once also after college. We are all pretty familiar with the Nashville music scene and let me tell you, it’s not all country music. There are many, many songwriters in Nashville who constantly play small venues to showcase, or try out, their new material. These songwriters are not necessarily music artists, they mainly write songs for other artists. Songwriting is what they do. In some cases, they can be both. Many times you come across a trio of rough looking not so great singers who take turns playing a “round,” where each person plays one song at a time and it goes around as many times as the venue will allow it. They are there to play their songs, not perform them.

Many times people dismiss pop music as having no depth or meaning and think that all songs are generated by a marketing department and based on a not so real occurrence. In some cases this can be true. However, the talented songwriters who happen to be labeled as pop stars often miss out on the respect they should be given for their music. Being friends with people like Ben, his band mates, Tyler Hilton etc., we realize that their songs are true, meaningful and more complex than you may think. We wanted to show that these “pop stars” have more to offer than just a pretty face and wanted to showcase songs that they had written in a setting where they wouldn’t be judged by the way they were marketed as artists. We mimicked the Nashville model since it helped us with our ultimate goal of showcasing talent and not image.

The show was amazing. Being a huge fan of Brit pop myself, I was floored when James Bourne showed up to play along with Ben. I had the pleasure of seeing Mr. Bourne play a similar type of show in New York a few weeks prior and this surprise was more than enough to make me tear up a bit. James played some songs from his former band, Busted, and a song from his current band Son of Dork. He also played some McFly songs, a band that he writes with often. Ben played a few TC5 songs and a few of his own including a beautiful song called “Whiskey Street.” The highlight of the show came during The Click Five’s song “Jenny,” when James sang along and the audience joined in too. Often during rounds the musicians harmonize and play along with each other spontaneously.

You can watch video clips of the show here: The One Love on YouTube.

Do you plan on doing more? If so, where?

Jade: Yes! Our 2nd show will be held in New York City on January 21, 2008 at The Bitter End. Ben, Luke White, Eric Espiritu, Nate Campany and a few SPECIAL guests including some of these guys’ friends – if you get my drift – and others will be making special appearances. Other bloggers, of the non-performing breed, will be in attendance as well. Tickets will be $7 and all proceeds will be donated to charities supported by The One Love bloggers.

With Ben being a member of The Click Five, has the band been involved with The One Love? Do they have any plans to be involved in the future?

Jade: Several of the guys have expressed interest in being involved in different ways. Kyle recently wrote a guest blog under Ben’s blog and Joey is working with us to create an exclusive TOL tee-shirt through his new clothing line LTL, which gives a portion of its proceeds to the LTL Life Fund supported charities – http://www.ltlbackspace.com. There’s also talk of theoneburrito.org but that’s still kind of top secret.

How did The Click Five enjoy supporting Mcfly on tour and were there any memorable moments?

Jade: Ben didn’t get this far in the interview before I took over, but I was there during most of the tour and I’d like to say that my favorite moment was when Ben was wearing a braid in the back of his very stylish mullet and the camera man zoomed in, flashing that thing on the two HUGE screens above the stage! Okay, but even better than that, was that I got to spend two of the best weeks of my life seeing two extraordinarily amazing bands back to back each evening. This was what I called a little piece of heaven. I’ve never felt chill bumps like I did during those shows! I wonder if I’ll ever get that moment back?

Cassie: Braiding Ben’s hair, and then the fans ripping the braids out was definitely one of my favorite things about the tour. I also enjoyed the part of the show where giant beach balls were thrown into the audience every night. The Click Five really enjoyed supporting McFly, and we did as well.

What is the most exciting thing to do in Nashville?

Jade: The most exciting thing to do in Nashville is to hang out with Cassie and Jade of course. No, not really. We are pretty boring when we are at home. It is exciting however that there is live music to see every night! If you want to see a band you love or just some really good musicians or songwriters, there is always something going on. If you prefer to be on the other side of the mic, may I suggest Ms. Kelli’s karaoke in Printer’s Alley. They have about every song on Earth and it’s never too crowded so you can get in at least 4-5 good performances during an evening. As far as shows go, my personal fave venue is RCKTWN, but I’m sure Cassie has a different opinion. I prefer going down the road a bit to Franklin, TN for shopping in small boutiques…and if it’s food that you crave, may I suggest my fave restaurant Jackson’s. After eating the best paninis in town, please take time to indulge in the cookie egg rolls at least once in your life. Fellow blogger Nate Campany can attest to their amazingness!

Do you have more plans for The One Love website? If so, can you tell us what they are?

Jade: During the next six months the site will be changing a lot as we are working on a slow build and in it for the long haul. We will be adding the ability for people to comment on blogs, more bloggers and in the future we hope to make the site accessible for anybody to sign up to blog and support charities of their choice.

What is your message to the people of the world?

Jade: Love life. Love music. Love each other.

The Academy of Country Music’s Top New Female of 2003, Kellie Coffey, is back with a new independent album entitled ‘Walk On.’ The follow-up release to her debut album,‘When You Lie Next to Me,’ was produced by Wayne Kirkpatrick (Little Big Town) and features 12 tracks, 11 co-written by Kellie Coffey. The video for the first single, “I Would Die For That,” is exploding on YouTube with over 75,000 hits in only four weeks.

‘Walk On,’ is the kind of deep introspective album that most artists aspire to make. “We wrote songs about our life experience and what moved us,” Coffey said of her co-writers. “It was probably the purest creative experience of my life.” The new album represents more than one dream come true; Coffey became pregnant and gave birth to her baby boy during the writing and recording of the album.

Kellie Coffey was inspired to write the powerful ballad “I Would Die For That,” because of her own struggles with infertility. The video is garnering attention from around the globe as couples relate to her heartfelt, thought provoking lyrics and soaring vocals. “I’ve been humbled by the response and stories I’ve been told. This song is giving a voice to women and couples who are struggling to have a baby,” said Coffey.

From the gospel tinged ‘Walk On,’ to the playful and humorous “Everything She Never Wanted,” and “Bandwagon,” the album mirrors Kellie’s life. ‘Walk On’ is a soulful anthem for overcoming adversity. “Everything She Never Wanted” is a funny take on a driven career woman who finds that being a wife and mom, the things she never wanted to be, are what she really wanted to be all along.

“Bandwagon” takes a lighthearted look at the modern obsession of needing to be a part of the latest craze. From cellphones, to handbags, to designer coffees, to the latest diet, the lyrics make you laugh and think at the same time. With backing vocals by Dan Tyminski (Union Station, O Brother Where Art Thou) and a band made up of some of the best pickers in Nashville, this has the makings of an instant country classic.

The final cut on the album, “There You Go Again”, was recorded in one take. Almost unheard of in an age of computer assisted recording. Right after Kellie and co-writer/producer Wayne Kirkpatrick finished writing the song, they decided to cut a quick piano vocal demo. Months later when they were preparing to cut the master track, they listened down to the “demo” and decided not to touch the vocal or piano track they recorded in the inspired moments after writing the song. They simply called Jonathan Yudkin, Nashville’s premier fiddle player and violinist, to lay down a string quartet. The results are stunning.

Oklahoma native Kellie Coffey entered the country music scene in 2001 with her top 10 single, “When You Lie Next To Me,” which remained on the chart for over a year. Her album of the same name entered the country sales chart at #5. She followed that with the top 15 single, “At the End Of The Day.” Kellie Coffey toured with Kenny Chesney for over a year on his “Senoritas and Margaritas” tour and opened for George Strait on his 2004 tour. She received a Top New Country Female American Music Award nomination, and the ACM win in the same category. She has appeared on multiple ACM, CMA and CMT Shows.
