Agnes has made a huge splash in the dance/club scene with her infectious single "Release Me" and is ready for the mainstream as the song crosses over to pop radio.

"My music is pop, dance and a little bit disco," says Agnes. "The songs on this album - it's a lot of up-tempo songs - but the most important thing is just having good songs and good melodies. I like to debut my songs just singing to guitar accompaniment, so that people can hear the melodies."

The first single from the new BWO album 'Big Science' is "Right Here Right Now" and features the delicious vocals from 'The Queen' of Swedish pop: Velvet.

"Right Here Right Now" will be released in the UK on August 31, 2009.

BWO consisting of Martin Rolinski (lead vocals), Marina Schiptjenko (laptops, backing vocals) and Alexander Bard (laptops, backing vocals) is a laptop-based electro band from Stockholm, Sweden. The band was formed in 2003 and has since released three studio albums: 'Prototype' (2004), 'Halcyon Days' (2006), 'Fabricator' (2007), and the compilation album 'Pandemonium/The Singles Collection' (2008).

Velvet’s last single, “Chemistry” was a favourite on the Scott Mills Floorfillers show on Radio 1.

BWO have become famous not only for their capacity to score one hit single after another (they have delivered more hit singles in the Pan-European Singles Chart than any other artist in the 21st century), but also as the latest representation of the proud tradition of Scandinavian tongue-in-cheek pop for the masses, following in the footsteps of their native role models Abba, Roxette and The Cardigans.

There must be something in that icy water that they drink, as Scandinavians seem to have a particularly keen ear for melody and harmony.

Sweden, in particular, has given birth to a number of great popular music acts recently: Robyn, The Knife, Peter Bjorn & John, The Concretes, and Andreas Kleerup.

Kleerup was half of the act responsible for the UK number 1 hit single, "With Every Heartbeat". The other half was, of course, the feisty asymetrically fringed Robyn. His melancholic electro-pop framed Robyn's ballad about break-up perfectly and secured it as one of the UK's most prolific pop moments.

As they wrote the song together they agreed to call it 'Robyn with Kleerup' on her album and 'Kleerup with Robyn' on his album. He is already a massive star in his native home having won no less than three awards Best Newcomer, Best Composer and Best Producer at Sweden's 2009 Grammis music awards recently (the equivalent of our Grammys).

Ok, so he's huge back home, is friends with Robyn and has had a number one single in the UK. So what, you may ask. Well this bearded lothario with grungy locks is about to embark on an assault of the US with his own self-titled album.

Kleerup features collaborations with Lykke Li, Marit Bergman, Titiyo (Neneh Cherry's younger sister) and of course includes his hit collaboration with Robyn.

Kleerup's songs are a mixture of his familiar formula of electronica and Swedish female vocal. Good thing this is a formula with proven results as each one is pure electro-pop perfection. The lead single with Titiyo, "Longing For Lullabies" encapsulates his warm and melancholic sound flawlessly.

On the emotive "Until We Bleed", Kleerup draws a surprisingly warm performance from the blog friendly Lykke Li.

Then there are the songs when Andreas himself steps up to the mic. The jolly "On My Own" has echoes of electro-pop classic Buggles' "Video Killed the Radio Star", while on "Misery" he beefs up the drums and goes all Depeche Mode on us. But that's not the full story. Tracks such as "Hero", "Thank You For Nothing", "Tower of Trellick" and "Iris" showcase Kleerup's different shades. Taking in Kraftweft-esque rhythms via Vangelis inspired soundscapes, they work flawlessly tying the album together.

So there you have it, a skillfully constructed and solid debut that should firmly establish Kleerup as an act to be reckoned with.

Swedish band Mando Diao has been around since 1999 with notable (UK) GOLD releases 'Bring Em In', 'Hurricane Bar', and 'Ode To Ochrasy'.

Last night I had the pleasure of attending one of the best shows that I've seen in a long time. I was looking forward to going to The Jericho Tavern for a change - as opposed to the Carling Academy now the O2 Academy in Oxford. Actually, after listening to Baskery's music on their MySpace page and watching one of their videos, I was quite surprised that their show was being held at the smaller venue, The Jericho.

From what I had heard before seeing them live, I thought either the Swedish band isn't quite known here yet and the venue won't be very busy on a Tuesday night, or the place will be packed to the rafters with fans. Unfortunately the place wasn't very busy - but made for an intimate night of music.

Stevie One Bloke, One Mandolin opened the show. His name speaks for himself - except that "harmonica" isn't included in the title. Stevie seems like an interesting character, with his colourful stories about life and friendship along with his descriptive lyrics and the unique combination of mandolin and occasional harmonica. It's no surprise that he has a busy tour schedule this year.

InLight was next. The Oxford based band was stripped down to an acoustic set with just two members, Charlie Cooke and Mike Riddle. I'm not sure why they used the term acoustic though, since they were playing electric guitar and keyboard. Mike played an acoustic guitar for a couple songs - maybe that warranted the term? They sounded good, with witty banter at times, nice vocals and instrumentation. "Bridges" was a stand out song. I would look forward to seeing the full band at some point.

After their set, my anticipation high, I looked around the room and was surprised to see that people weren't flooding in for the final act, Baskery. I had to keep reminding myself that they're a new band and that not many people know about them yet.

As the girls were on stage, tuning up their instruments, something caught my eye. Why was the banjo player, Greta, setting up the snare drum on its side, on the floor, next to the kick drum? Well, as I soon found out, get this, she plays SLIDE banjo while sitting at the drums, playing the kick drum and the snare with her bare feet, sometimes while playing harmonica, and sings brilliant harmonies alongside her equally talented sisters, Stella on upright bass, and the youngest, Sunniva Bondesson on acoustic guitar.

The minute they started playing and singing their self-described "High voltage, Killbilly, Banjopunk, Blues-grass, Mud-country" music, with the tightest harmonies that I've ever heard live, I knew that I was in for a startlingly great night of music. That anticipation that I was feeling before they played was there throughout the set, after each song. Sometimes they would switch lead vocal parts, but thankfully, would always come back to those harmonies - harmonies so good that if you could see them, they might have looked like gold dust sparkling in the air.

That night we were treated to a Grammy Award winning performance by a very talented band that hopefully a lot more people will know about in the near future.

New band Little Majorette are Petter Winnberg, Nils Tornqvist and Zoe Durrant. They met in Stockholm late 2006 and decided to form Little Majorette in 2007.

The music sounds sexy cute with a playful sound of a French summer in the 60's, but having been recorded in the middle of a dark Swedish winter ensured Zoe didn't lose her British grey undertones and after a lot of business-class Ryanair flights between London and Stockholm, they now have a growing catalogue of infectious songs.
