Abigail Washburn's solo, first-take performance of "Nobody's Fault But Mine" (Blind Willie Johnson) from the 10th floor of a storied, dilapidated building is premiering now on NPR Music. Mason Jar Music, a collective of NYU film and music students, created the video with a grant to produce orchestral collaborations in historic New York City locations.

"The whole scene was magical," Abigail tells NPR Music, despite the building's lack of heat in below-freezing temperatures. "…but, however glamorous it might sound to film in an ancient building, a picture of truth shows rats scurrying into darker corners…I fell in a black hole off the walking ramp to the back door."

In support of her critically acclaimed third album 'City of Refuge' (Rounder), Abigail and her band are confirmed to perform at Bonnaroo and Telluride - including the Sheridan Opera House on June 18th with Mumford & Sons - and select dates with the Wood Brothers and the Head and the Heart. On April 16th, she performed "King Tut" alongside Steve Martin in the Temple of Dendur at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

"[City of Refuge] echoes with thoughtfulness, charm and joy, and should introduce Ms. Washburn to an audience beyond her following… All the arrangements show just how versatile contemporary American folk music can be when it's played earnestly yet with a sense of adventure." - Jim Fusilli, Wall Street Journal

"Ms. Washburn’s enigmatic songs mingle Appalachia and folk-pop, with tinges of Asia and Bruce Springsteen." - Jon Pareles, The New York Times

"the best kind of crossover - one that anyone can find comfort in." - August Brown, LA Times

"'City of Refuge' couches Washburn's virtuosity - both as a singer and picker… It probably wasn't her intention, but Washburn ended up making a modern classic." - James Reed, Boston Globe

"…the record I randomly put on and fell in love with." - Bob Boilen, NPR All Songs Considered

"Washburn's new solo disc deserves a wider audience…'City of Refuge' frames Washburn's smoky-sexy vocals with lush string-band arrangements that make the occasional touch of Chinese zither seem natural." - Mikael Wood, Entertainment Weekly

"charmingly explorative… 'City of Refuge' deserves to be shortlisted as one of the stronger folk albums in recent memory." - Andrew Leahey, Paste Magazine

"a folk-pastiche that draws on all of Washburn's past successes and crafts them together into lovely and sometimes mysterious work of art." - Jon Stone, American Songwriter
