Oxford band A Silent Film to release sophomore album Sand & Snow + US tour dates

A Silent Film

Acclaimed Oxford, UK quartet A Silent Film is proud to announce the release of their sophomore album SAND & SNOW, which is set for a June 5th release.

This exciting eleven-song collection continues to deliver the expansive indie rock that caught the attention of countless fans on the band's debut album The City That Sleeps. Their breakthrough single You Will Leave A Mark was an iTunes 'Discovery Download' (resulting in more than 100,000+ downloads), was the longest charting song ever on Sirius XM's Alt 18 Countdown (peaking at no. 1) and was the 4th most requested song of the year on that station. The band's live studio performance of You Will Leave A Mark was voted best live session of the year in the Sirius XM Alt Nation listener's awards.

Throughout 2010/11 A Silent Film relentlessly toured North America with artists such as The Temper Trap, Civil Twilight, The Smashing Pumpkins and One Republic. A Silent Film will once again hit the road this April (tour dates below).

First single "Danny, Dakota & the Wishing Well" - an epic rock song bursting forward with powerful emotional hooks and a soaring chorus - is now available.

For a limited time, "Danny, Dakota & the Wishing Well" will be available for free download when you visit facebook.com/asilentfilm.

"I had always been inspired by American writers, musicians and film-makers but everything I knew and wrote about was in Oxford," says vocalist/pianist Robert Stevenson of the band first bringing their music to America. "Suddenly we were flung into the eye of a cultural hurricane; traveling from state to state day after day, you couldn't help but be inspired by this wealth of new experiences. We decided that however we were going to make this new album we had to stay here and capture it."

Recorded in various studios in Arizona, Texas and London, there is a Beat Poetry-esque meter to SAND & SNOW. Like a Brit-pop score to Jack Kerouac's On The Road; the narrative flow coupled with propulsive bass lines and swooning symphonic melodies is a snapshot of the creativity inspired by the band's move from the UK. "In a way it feels like our story started when we got on a plane and came to America. We felt like it was somehow ready for us and we had something to offer."

SAND & SNOW documents this romance and self-discovery from a band with proven songwriting chops, and showcases a freshly confident depth in the songwriting. "With this album we feel defined by the music we have made."
