The Graphite Set – “Grayson Perry” single via Thumbscrew Music 14th October 2013
Following on from the debut EP ‘These Streets’ The Graphite Set AKA Lily Buchanan returns with “Grayson Perry”, the new single out 14th October 2013.
Recorded at Real World Studios, and produced by Ed Seed and Ali Staton, “Grayson Perry” witnesses The Graphite Set trigger a more angular and driven sound. Lily’s distinctive voice is ever-present, as it strides across spiky guitars and walking bass lines.
The release is backed by the track “Time”, which was recorded at House of Strange Studios and features Kathrine Blamire from Smoke Fairies on guitar.
This slow burning offering allows Lily’s vocal talent to take centre stage.
Lily read Grayson Perry’s autobiography ‘Portrait Of The Artist As A Young Girl’ as research for a portrait that she was going to paint of Perry and his motorbike. The book tells unpretentiously and directly of Perry’s development of his artistic voice and his own self definition as a teenager and young adult. The narrative of Perry breaking free and setting out on the journey of his career moved and inspired her to write this song.
Lily grew up in East Lothian, Scotland. She has painted all her life and studied Illustration at Central St Martins, hence the name.
