The Monarch – Camden Town, London

November Dates: 07/11/09 and 21/11/09

Time: 7.30pm till 1:30am

Do you remember when you first saw that pack of brats pegging it round the halls in The Breakfast Club?

Remember when Tom Cruise danced in his underwear in Risky Business and made briefs sexy – briefly

How about when young Leo, unsurprisingly, got all wet with the gorgeous Virginie Ledoyen in The Beach

Or when Patrick Swayze pulled Baby out of the corner?

What about when Danny Laruso started kicking some ass in Karate Kid?!

Remember when the Goonies tied Josh Brolin to that chair and cycled off in search of a pirate ship?

What about when Mr Blue, Pink, Brown, Orange, White and Blonde stepped out of their cadillacs?

Speaking of colours – you’ve got to remember The Blues Brothers?

Now…stop thinking of the music!

You can’t can you. Of course you can’t. Because behind every great movie is a great soundtrack and an ultimate music moment that will forever be etched in our brains.

So we have stolen our fathers car, rounded up the brat pack and are heading towards Beaumont at a steady speed of 88mph to reap some dancing havock upon the home of John Lithgow. And we are making sure that NOBODY is left in the corner!

Taking place on the first and third Saturday of every month at The Monarch in Camden, SOUNDTRACKS! is London’s fastest growing new club night. The SOUNDTRACKS DJ’s spin their way through the finest movie tunes ever.

Come jive to Dirty Dancing, Ferris Bueller, Pulp Fiction, Grease, Pretty In Pink, Lock Stock, St Elmo’s Fire, The Commitments, Superfly, Top Gun and all their many many friends.

Featuring in order of appearance -

- Soundtracks DJs
- The best songs ever from the finest movies beamed to screen
- Dirty Dance Offs
- Drinking
- Free popcorn
- And introducing more general all out tomfoolery

From the makers of Hugs and Smiles.

Written and directed by Soundtracks DJ’s

Now lets try this again…

Remember when Ferris Bueller storms the parade and does the best karaoke “Twist and Shout” ever?

What about when Michael J Fox is surfing through Beacontown on the Wolfmobile while Stiles blares out “Surfin USA”?

You know when Nicholas Cage sings “So Happy Together” to Nicholas Cage in Adaptation?

How about when Martin Blank sits outside the radio shack listening to Debi play The Clash in Grosse Point Blank?

Or when Kevin Bacon defies everyone and cuts loose, Footloose!

Remember the band playing in the background of the bar in Coyote Ugly? Probably not…afterall, it was The Calling.

Roll Up, Roll Up! The Circus is arriving at Matter.

Prepare to be awestruck, titillated and entertained as Circus, Jodie Harsh’s infamous club night rolls into Matter at the o2 for one night only, on 4th July 2009.

This year, Circus is officially teaming up with Pride London to present a host of spectacles much bigger, better and more outrageous than you’ve ever witnessed on a dance floor.

With a melee of special guest DJs and entertainers across two huge rooms of pandemonium and colour, this big top couldn’t be further removed from the carnival you visited as a child.

In it’s three years of delighting clubbers, who travel far and wide to join the Circus, the night has always boasted big name DJ’s. Tonight is no exception. In fact, it’s the biggest line-up Circus has ever seen and undoubtedly Matter’s most diverse and colourful:

Siouxsie (DJ): To call this lady “legendary” is surely an understatement: Siouxsie’s singing career has spanned a breathtaking three decades since taking to the stage in late 1976. Siouxsie’s debut single with the Banshees, “Hong Kong Garden”, was a massive hit in 1978 and kick started a torrent of 20-plus top twenty singles, 15 critically acclaimed albums and a musical journey that is second to none. In 2006 Siouxsie recorded her first solo album – the resulting “Mantaray” was heralded as possibly her best ever and contained the storming “Into A Swan” and “Here Comes That Day” singles. Siouxsie is one of the most groundbreaking and iconic females in popular culture and has proved an inspiration for an army of followers and admirers. Now, armed with her own personal record collection, Siouxsie has chosen Circus as the setting to begin her DJ career with an exclusive set at Matter.

Frankmusic (DJ): It goes without saying that 2009 is Frankmusik’s year. The electro singer, producer, disc jockey and remixer is near to completing his debut album co-produced by Stuart Price – who has previously weaved his magic on albums by The Killers and Madonna – while what little time he has left over has been given to remixing the likes of CSS and Mika. An established DJ, Frankmusik has toured the world spinning platters that matter and we’re excited to welcome him to the Circus.

Kissy sell Out (Live): He may have remixed the likes of Mark Ronson, Sugababes, Gwen Stefani, Groove Armada and Calvin Harris, and DJ’d the world over with his Kissy Klub, but tonight the Sell Out himself is performing tracks from his debut album Youth live with his band.

Secret PA (Live): Now announced as girl of the moment…VV Brown!

Jodie Harsh (DJ): Dubbed the ‘real Queen of England’, Harsh has taken drag to pop cultural levels not seen since the eighties and is an established DJ across the UK, and indeed the world. Jodie is currently in the studio working on remixes for various music outfits and has recently worked closely with both Larry Tee and William Orbit. Jodie is resident DJ at Manumission and is about to embark on a world tour with them. As the promoter of Circus, Jodie Harsh is your ringleader this evening, and promises many exciting surprises.

Dan Gillespe Sells (DJ): As the lead singer of The Feeling, Dan can claim to be in one of the UK’s most successful indie pop bands of the last decade. They have toured the word, swept up at award shows and had ten singles hit the charts in the UK. Dan is also an accomplished DJ with an arsenal of music.

Kris di Angelis (DJ): Resident DJ at Circus, remixer for Ladyhawke, Roisin Murphy and Lily Allen, and this summer’s new resident at Space in Ibiza, this Defected-signed artist is the new name to drop on the electro circuit. Learn it, because you’ll be hearing it often.

Room 2: Gutterslut feat. Tom Stephan, Per QX, Elliot J Brown, Nic Fisher, Miss Crystal MC.

Tom Stephan (DJ): Tom, aka Super Chumbo, is one of the hardest working DJs in the industry flying all over the world to wow crowds with his unique electronic beeps and pieces. He juggles his DJ commitments with production and remix work for Missy Elliot, Goldfrapp, Pet Shop Boys and Kylie, as well as Eric Morillo, Roger Sanchez and Danny Tenaglia, while heading up his label ChumboMundo.

Circus is at Matter on 4th July 2009, from 10pm – 6am.

Tickets available from www.ticketweb.co.uk

Sirius XM Radio and “Party 105”/ WDRE’s on-air jock, THEO, teams with seminal house music label, Nervous Records, to release the latest installment in the enormously popular Nervous Nitelife series, titled, Nervous Nitelife: Summer Clubbing 3 (Nervous) on July 7th, 2009.

Summoning the summer’s best tunes – both underground and popular hits – THEO wrings every last drop of bliss from his many live sets and condenses them into a potent cocktail of thumping beats, rapturous synths and vocals galore.

On Summer Clubbing3, knockouts include Nervous label-mate, OSCAR G.’s, “Back To You” (RICHIE SANTANA & PETER BAILEY Mind Control Mix) featuring TAMARA WALLACE, and TRISTAN GARNER versus CRYSTAL WATERS’ “Gypsy Woman 2009,” the latter an update of an addictive classic and the former a classic in-the-making.

THEO gets his tribal groove on with UNION JACKERS’ “Drop” (PROK & FITCH Mix), until MARCO V. ups the progressive-house ante with the peak-time energy of “Unprepared.” MIXIN’ MARC gives a nod to early house with an unforgettable vocal sample in “Dreamin’” (RUDI STAKKER Mix), though the compilation wouldn’t be whole without RALPH FALCON’s “Whateva” (TOM STEPHAN Remix) featuring ALEX K. and ALAN T. In all, THEO grabs onto the friendly, happy, welcoming vibe he creates each summer and polishes it to a high luster.

A New York native, THEO PISANI cultivated his love for dance music through years working in radio, beginning as program director and mixshow coordinator on college radio stations at Bryant College (Rhode Island), Brooklyn College (Brooklyn), and Stony Brook University (Long Island).

After college, THEO scored commercial radio gigs at WLIR, WBLI and WXXP (which later became WDRE/Party 105), mixing on live broadcasts. At WXXP, THEO was hired by VIC LATINO as mixshow coordinator and eventually was named music director. (WDRE is a BDS-monitored station also broadcasting into Nassau County on 101.5FM.)

Today, THEO’s dynamic mix of house music is heard each week on Party 105 (105.3FM, Fridays live 5-6pm, and Sundays 2-4am ET), and on Sirius XM (“Air” on BPM, Saturdays 2-3am ET).

Off-the-air, THEO can be heard deejaying in leading clubs including: Cielo, M2 and Pacha (New York City); Neptune Beach Club (Long Island, NY); Harrah’s Pool (Atlantic City); and Nocturnal (Miami).

Official Summer Clubbing 3 release parties are being held at Neptune (July 11, 2009), Cielo (July 16th), and M2 (July 25th).

For the third year in-a-row, THEO has been hailed by DJ Times Magazine as ranking among “America’s Best DJs” (presented by Pioneer Pro DJ), a fan-powered poll that has seen THEO consistently placing in the top 10. THEO is also endorsed by Red Bull.

Built on the principals of innovation and diversity and fuelled by its upfront vision, Gatecrasher – the groundbreaking club brand – has propelled dance-music into the hearts of millions. Now, over three storming CDs, comes 49 defining Gatecrasher moments, featuring classic and future anthems from TIESTO, ARMIN VAN BUUREN, PAUL VAN DYK, PAUL OAKENFOLD, VERRACOCHA, U2, GOURYELLA, WILLIAM ORBIT, AYLA, BINARY FINARY, COSMIC GATE and ART of TRANCE.

The CDs mixed by Gatecrasher stalwarts JUDGE JULES, MATT HARDWICK and SCOTT BOND encapsulate a sonic soundscape of sixteen years of Gatecrasher and are an explosive, euphoric, hands in the air journey through the laser-imprinted anthems that guided to Gatecrasher to supremacy.

‘Gatecrasher’s Trance Anthems 1993-2009′ invokes stunning memories of trance’s golden era from the soaring melodies and powerful pianos of Humate’s Love Stimulation, to the evocative and climatic seminal Paul Van Dyk anthem For an Angel remixed exclusively for 2009 by Filo & Peri. The dramatic sonic journey continues with the sacred vocal trance of Not Over Yet from Planet Perfecto, Paul Oakenfold’s beautifully emotive epic Summer Sun, Armin Van Burren’s dramatic and ethereal Ubik and upfront future anthem Could Be Love from Judge Jules.

From humble beginnings to a world-conquering global club brand, Gatecrasher has continued to push boundaries and dominate dance music for 16 years. It’s reputation as a flamboyant, individual and hedonistic brand continues to grow and the Gatecrasher name remains emblazoned in the heart and soul of clubbers throughout the world.

The Gatecrasher lion has always sat proudly at the forefront of clubland, responsible of some of the most awe-inspiring, never-to- be- forgotten events.”2000GC” Millennium Eve event at the Don Valley Stadium, road blocked events at Birmingham’s NEC Area and the sell-out Summer Sound System festival are immortalised in club-history.

If you were there when Tiesto and Timo Maas both made their UK debuts at the club, or when Paul van Dyk rocked 27,000 people at the Don Valley stadium. If you recall with moist eyes watching England beat Germany 5-1 on the huge screens at the Gatecrasher Summer Sound System, before heading off to dance until the sun rose. If you risked life and limb each Saturday, travelling across the ‘snake’s pass’ from Manchester or got that buzz of anticipation as you headed up the M1 and the first signs for Sheffield began to go racing past, this album is for you..

2009 sees Gatecrasher continue in its quest to be world-renowned with the opening of its £5million flagship venue in Birmingham. Since the club opened over ½ million clubbers have flocked to the venue with DJs including Eric Morillo, Tall Paul, Fedde Le Grand and Laid Back Luke rating the club amongst the top venues in the world. Gatecrasher’s Trance Anthems provides the perfect opportunity to look back to the club’s heritage, as the brand further evolves and broadens its musical spectrum.

Judge Jules commented, “Gatecrasher has occupied a significant place in my heart since I became resident there in the late 90s. There was simply no place like it in terms of atmosphere and unique, musically-knowledgeable crowd. Now, after sixteen years, it’s proved its credentials by weathering every clubland storm, coming out stronger and just as relevant as ever.”

Gatecrasher’s Trance Anthems is a salute to one of the most iconic clubbing movements in dance music. A sonic-soundscape of clubbing history immortalised forever. Re-live the future.

This deluxe compilation brings you the true sound of Pacha, as it opens its vaults for the first time in its musical history, to create the soundtrack of your summer.

This massive three-disc affair is a time capsule of dance music from the last 20 years fusing Pacha classics with a sprinkling of future classics, cherry picked and mixed by resident DJ, Paul Taylor, who says:

“I’m absolutely honoured to be a part of this project and involved with such a great brand like Pacha. I had a free reign over the track selection and designed the album to include recent classics as well as older iconic tunes to make this a very special collection”.

This comprehensive collection will have you recalling some of your finest Pacha moments.

Disc One kicks things off with two killer number ones including Spiller ‘Groovejet (If This Ain’t Love)’ and Room 5 ft. Oliver Cheatham ‘Make Luv’. Alongside classic tracks from Blaze, Shakedown, Kings Of Tomorrow, Gat Décor & The Source ft. Candi Staton.

Disc two follows up with another excellent selection of Pacha mega anthems such as New Order ‘Blue Monday’, Three Drives ‘Greece 2000’ and Fragma ‘Toca Me’.

As if that wasn’t enough, disc three brings us bang up-to-date with a fine helping of future classics from David Guetta vs The Egg ‘Love Don’t Let Me Go’, Eric Prydz vs Floyd ‘Proper Education’ and Bodyrox ‘Yeah Yeah’.

Watch Pacha Ibiza video:

Throughout the years, Pacha has remained a world leader in elegant and debauched partying. And its iconic cherry logo has become a hallmark of glamorous and quality products. Pacha Classics is a testament to that legacy, packed with 59 anthems, 3 number ones, 24 Top 10’s and beautifully packaged in a unique glitter wallet and a super sexy white foil logo emboss.

Pacha Classics is THE heavyweight dance album for Spring 2009.

Release date: April 20, 2009 on New State.

I am pleased to announce that David Virr has been chosen as the new Associate Booking Agent at The Middle East in Boston.

The Associate Booking Agent will be responsible for booking Boston bands, as well as New England and New York bands here at the club. Kevin S. Hoskins will continue to book the national / touring bands for The Middle East Upstairs and Downstairs.

Longtime local music fan and supporter David Virr is probably better known as Dave Duncan – weekend on air personality at WFNX (101.7 FM), where he also holds the position of Local Music Director and hosts the station’s acclaimed local music program, New England Product, airing Sunday nights from 11pm to midnight.

His introduction to the local music scene came first as a fan, and later as a DJ on WERS (88.9 FM) while attending Emerson College. He hosted various shows during his college years, including his own creation, “British Accents”, a unique radio program highlighting the newest and best music coming out of the UK. The show featured live performances from artists like Super Furry Animals, Idlewild, and the first American radio appearance by Badly Drawn Boy.

Following his graduation from Emerson, Virr moved the still-popular radio show to Tufts University’s WMFO, where he continued to host “British Accents” as a community volunteer. In 2003, he joined the on-air staff at WFNX, and in 2005, took over the Local Music Director duties. There, his duties included occasionally booking local bands to play station-sponsored shows around town, and this responsibility allowed him to develop a love and a knack for booking local shows, which has now led him to the Middle East.

DJ Disciple aka David Banks started out playing underground parties in New York, and since then has become one of the busiest DJs in the world. He’s worked in more clubs in the UK than any American DJ before, and has played clubs around the world.

Not only is DJ Disciple busy being a traveling DJ, his work has appeared in movies, he’s done remixes for several artists and more recently, his latest single, “Work It Out” has been receiving airplay on Radio 1 as well as being played by internationally acclaimed DJs.

“Work It Out” is the debut single set for release in the UK on House Trained Records June 2, 2008. The song features Dawn Tallman and the single includes funky mixes by Mischa Daniels, Klaas, Whelan & Di Scala and more. I’m really digging the Klaas Mix and the Allister Whitehead Full Circle Remix.

Something tells me that those who don’t frequent the clubs on a regular basis are going to start hearing more from DJ Disciple. He’s already been played on UK radio, and now with the “Work It Out” release and video to go with it, this song will be his intro into many more people’s homes – and cars this summer 2008.

For some reason, the DJ life has always been a mystery to me, and an interesting topic of conversation amongst fellow musicians. A few years ago it seemed there were more bands feeling the pressure of DJs squeezing onto their turf…but over time I think the dust may have settled a bit and some musicians are even out there DJing themselves, when they’re not playing music. Personally, I think it would be great to work with a DJ someday – it would be interesting to hear some of my songs remixed by a pro!

Anyone with the opportunity to go to a club where DJ Disciple is playing should. Throw away any inhibitions that you may have and just lose yourself to the music!

Russian superstar Sergey is set to release his infectious new single “Girlfriend” in April, 2008 on Style Records.

(Read Band Weblogs’ exclusive interview with Sergey!)

“Girlfriend” is the next single to be released from Sergey’s award winning album ‘Tv Show’ and follows on from hot club track “Everytime” which reached #10 in the UK Commercial Pop Club Chart. “Girlfriend” is a funky high energy track which will establish Sergey as Russia’s answer to Mika.

Singer and actor Sergey is one of the biggest artists since Tatu to emerge from Russia. He started his career in a band called Neposedi which also contained Julia and Lena who went on to form Tatu.

In 2000 Sergey entered Moscow’s famous MKHAT theatre school where he created a boy-duet ‘Smash!!’ with childhood friend Vlad Topalov. They were immediately signed by Universal Music Russia, and became one of the brightest Russian pop-wonders in 2002-2003 with FIVE #1 hits, numerous awards and millions of copies sold in Russia, CIS and South East Asia.

Sergey went solo in 2005 alongside Grammy award winning producer Brian Rawling. This collaboration added another edge to Sergey’s music, resulting in his debut solo album ‘Don’t Be Fake’, which was released in Russia and instantly sold more than 300,000 copies which led to the prestigious Russian National Music TV Channel’s MUZ TV Award as “Best New Act” in 2006. He then went onto finish second in the Russian version of Dancing On Ice which cemented his place amongst the leading performers in his home country.

In the UK, Sergey has already made a club impact with his first single and title track from his album, ‘FAKE’, this was released via Eurosolution to UK clubs, debuting on July 30th at #28 in the Commercial Music Club Chart in Music Week, where it spent 7 weeks reaching a high of #14.

Ungdomskulen (youthschool in English) is a Norwegian rock band. Their sound is founded on bass, drums and guitar. Taken individually, the drum beats seem inspired by the city, the bass is syncopated and sonic, and the jazz-like guitar sounds as if it’s possessed by rock demons.

Anthology will present two concerts to benefit Carl Evans Jr., the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Concerts Benefit for Carl Evans Jr., on Sunday January 20, 2008 in San Diego, California.

Carl Evans Jr., underwent surgery on December 10, 2007 to remove his left leg below the knee. This surgery was necessary to continue his ongoing battle against Diabetes. A founding member of the Grammy nominated band Fattburger, he’s been a beloved and highly respected member of San Diego’s jazz community for the past 30 years and has sat in on piano regularly with the Anthology House Band. The benefit concert is a combined effort of Anthology, San Diego’s acclaimed new live music venue, and 17 of San Diego’s finest jazz musicians. They are producing the concerts to help offset some of the medical expenses and future care for Evans. Anthology is donating the venue, and the all-star artist ensemble is contributing their performances.

Headlining the events will be internationally acclaimed saxophone artist Charles McPherson, super bass man Nathan East, leading jazz and Latin trumpeter Brian Lynch, recording artist trumpeter Gilbert Castellanos and keyboardist-composer-producer Rob Whitlock.

Ticket prices range from $25 to $38. Tickets for the concerts can be purchased through Anthology directly at the Anthology Box Office, online at www.AnthologySD.com and by phone at 619.595.0300.

Carl Evans Jr.

The musical progeny of former Navy Band master and accomplished saxophonist Carl Evans Sr. and mother Clara Lovelace, a gospel singer and choir director. Carl Evans Jr. is one of the country’s most acclaimed jazz pianists. Carl moved to San Diego at age five.

He was awarded a football scholarship to the University of San Diego High School playing as a defensive lineman. It took Evans one year of playing football to decide to change schools and attend Crawford High. “Football was great but Crawford had the best music program in the state. I played music with future luminaries Nathan East, Hollis Gentry III, Gunnar Biggs, Mel Goot, & Doug Robinson. I went from winning football awards to awards like Southwestern College Pianist Award.” Evans said. Evans graduated early from Crawford High School to begin touring with Barry White and through the years many others including Freddie Hubbard, Cannonball Adderley, Eddie Harris, Rufus Thomas, Anita Baker, Lionel Ritchie, Gerald Albright and Nathan East. He has recorded and produced over 25 CDs. He is the leader and co-founder of the internationally known, award-winning band “Fattburger” and has been nominated for a Grammy Award.

Above all of his accomplishments and awards Carl is one of the most respected and beloved musicians in the Jazz world!

“Sarah’s energy on stage was e-x-p-l-o-s-i-v-e. Her dynamic voice and trademark knee socks came packaged with a writhing sense of rock abandon that made the 3 piece feel more like a 12 piece. Sarah used Silverlake Lounge’s tiny stage to its fullest in a schizophrenic performance that left the audience awe-struck.” – Rock Insider Blog

“…a combination of detached female vocals, esoteric lyrics (see the palindrome-inspired “A Man a Plan a Canal”), and noisy instrumentation…Tackling not-so-happy subjects like Vietnam foxholes and thieving trolls, while also leaving room for ballads dedicated to wet tongues, the Hollows aren’t “happy” per se, but, then, quirky trumps cheery any day of the week.” – Flavorpill

Sojourn www.myspace.com/sojournonline

“Rock always hits a little sweeter when the mofos playing it look fu*@ing great! But that’s certainly not to take away from the fact the Sojourn are great players. Despite the predictable rock posturing of the three boys with guitars, it all came acrosss fresh. The highlight of the set was Sojourn’s inspired and attitude laden rendition of Brian Jonestown Massacre’s “Not If You Were the Last Dandy on Earth”. The corridor like format of the vineyard proved a perfect conductor of Sojourn’s raw rock power”. Dan Watt – Beat Magazine.

Ride On Rides www.myspace.com/rideonrides

Ride On Rides is a simple band to love – with its mix of 1960’s melodies, angular dynamics, and rowdy, free-flowing performances- this combination is assembled around sharp hooks, descending bass lines, Bowie-esque piano arrangements, well arranged harmonies, and boombastic beats.

Raspberry Cocaine www.myspace.com/raspberrycocaine

Raspberry Cocaine is Jamie Tepper, a 32 year old Hollywood High teacher and his trusty laptop. “The music — damaged, driving electro doused with samples — is home-recorded and self-released (and has even earned some airplay on Indie 103.1). Working from beside a large screen, Tepper triggers his music plus a slide show of carefully curated images, including album covers, historical photos and pop culture ephemera. In front of the screen, actress/performance artist Princess Pop (a.k.a. Audrey Malone, pictured) mimes, lip-syncs and dances accordingly” (Kevin Bronson). Jamie Tepper describes his musical project as, “a multimedia spectacle.”

Nigerian born singer Nayo (pronounced “Nigh-O”), has come on to the scene here in the UK in refreshing style. Nayo is slowly but surely bubbling up from the underground and something tells me that it won’t be long before she’s a household name. Her silky smooth and soulful vocals, reminiscent of Sade, have certainly caught the attention of not only the industry but her growing fanbase as well.

Having spent time in the US, Nayo graduated from Pepperdine University with a degree in Business Administration. She’s performed at shows in Los Angeles and independently released her single, “Party Fever” which made it onto the Billboard Club Play Charts and dance charts in Europe by late 2005.

Now based in the UK, her latest single, “Desert Storm”, was co-written by KK (Dido, Kylie Minogue) and features jazz, trip hop and bossanova influences. I can understand why some of the top DJs like Eric Smax, Thomas Gold and Grammy award winning Paul Harris along with Julian Peake would want to sink their teeth into “Desert Storm”, or anything that Nayo is involved in, for that matter. The single has been receiving airplay on Radio 1 and is currently making it’s way up the UK Club Charts.

Nayo interview with BandWeblogs.com
By: Jenny May

Jenny May: You’ve been writing music since a young age. What is your songwriting process like?

Nayo: It varies, but I mostly write with the piano and I tend to fine-tune my lyrics at a later stage.

When you moved to the US, how did you establish your music career? Did you form a band?

I was mostly trying to find my voice in the US, particularly when I was signed to Sony Music. I have always been a solo act but I did have a band support me for most of my shows.

How did your independent release of “Party Fever” come about?

It wasn’t planned at all. Luck sort of found me, I guess.

Where are you currently living, and do you have a favorite place to live?

I currently live in the UK, London to be specific. I don’t think I have a favorite place yet. I live opposite the EMI building so that I continue to be motivated.

Do you go to Nigeria often?

Yes, that’s one of the great things about living in London I can go home as often as I want or need to.

So far, where has been your favorite live music experience/gig to date and why?

It will have to be London as Los Angeles the only other city I have lived in was mostly geared towards indie bands and the film industry.

How do you see yourself in the future and do you have other interests outside of music that you would like to explore?

I will always be involved in music and within the media industry. Lately, I have been nurturing a growing interest in theatre as well and would love to work with some production companies years to come. But, music and touring is my primary focus.

Have you attended many live shows by other bands/artists? If so, what has been a memorable show and why?

The most memorable show has been the African Express which featured Damon Albarn, The Good, The Bad and The Queen, Amadou & Mariam a diverse group of artists both from Africa and the West.

What inspires you?

My mother, women across the world who are able to stand for their values and beliefs when faced against the odds or ills of all kinds.

Are there any particular artists and/or musicians that you would like to work with someday?

I would love to work with Damon Albarn, Bob Dylan, Seal, Youssou N’Dour and Tony Allen to name a few.

Has the internet effected your music career? If so, in what way?

The internet has positively affected my music career by empowering independent artists, like myself and allowing us to reach our fanbase directly across the globe.

Your latest single, “Desert Storm” has been doing very well in the UK charts. As your fanbase continues to grow, have there been many changes in your day to day life?

Yes, Thanks. Its currently Number 11 on the UK Charts. I guess the only change is that I have to work harder and do more, a lot more shows in various parts of the country, which is expected of any artist.

What music have you been listening to lately?

Asa, a Nigerian singer-songwriter based in France.

Nayo’s single, “Desert Storm”, with club remixes, is available as a digital release in the UK and across Europe.

With Radio 1 airplay and a club chart position already on the move, new single “Desert Storm” from the fresh-sounding Nayo is tipped to make big waves.

Read the Nayo interview!

“Desert Storm” is an ode to the Sahara about the phenomenon of inescapable attraction. Co-written with KK (Dido, Kylie Minogue), the track features strong influences of jazz, trip hop and bossanova and is set for release in the UK on November 12th 2007.

This release includes a massive gritty electro-house mix from the much in-demand duo Eric Smax and Thomas Gold plus Grammy award winning Paul Harris provides a driving but funky house mix with Julian Peake as SuperBass.

Huge Support for this dance floor stormer comes from likes of BBC Radio 1’s Judge Jules, Oliver Lang, Jim “Shaft” Ryan and many more.

Biography
Nayo (nigh-awh) is no ordinary girl. Born Temitope Odunayo Abidoye in Lagos, Nigeria, Nayo arose from the tragedy of losing her father through the power of music, faith and hope. Amidst the harsh realities of her troubled nation whilst grooving along to Astrud Gilberto, Sade, politically charged lyrics of Nigeria’s own Fela Kuti and Bob Marley, Nayo looked inward and sought to turn around her tragedy into something positive. With this renewed sense of determination, she relocated to the UK shortly after and released her debut single “African Girl”.
