Oxford-based group Jonquil has debuted a new video for "Get Up" off of their debut EP, One Hundred Suns, available now on Dovecote Records.
Sharing their vibrant brand of calypso-pop, the band made a phenomenal US debut playing three sold-out New York sets in 48 hours.
Heading to Austin shortly after, the 4-piece performed to brimming audiences at several SXSW '11 parties and showcases.
"They seemed ready to take on the States with their energetic pop," KCRW said of one of their live SXSW sets.
Jonquil - watch Get Up video:
The video for "Get Up" is compiled from footage of the Tokyo Olympiad in 1965.
Complete with twirling gymnasts, marching drum lines, and long distant runners, the video leaves you with an uplifting sense of "anything is possible."
The tropical melodies shine effervescently alongside the images of triumph, and though the video was completed before the tragic national disasters in Japan, one can see it as a nostalgic hope for happier times.
"All the songs off 'One Hundred Suns' have a timeless quality." - NYLON
"This Oxford, England group's jangly guitars and a bit of danciness prop up the band's anthemic songs, which recall Mumford & Sons' heart-on-your-sleeve vocals... if you like the beach party vibe, stick with Jonquil." - American Songwriter "Band To Watch"
"Jonquil are confident, carefree and wholly captivating...the song [Get Up] swims into the
bloodstream." - Absolute Punk
