Com Truise - Galactic Melt LP + 2011 tour dates w/ Active Child, Neon Indian

Com Truise

Com Truise is New Jersey designer/musician Seth Haley. His songs tap classic sci-fi and proto-electro in a way that is distinctly early eighties in scope, but they're also remarkably psychedelic and ominous as if they were surrounded by dark matter.

After his well-received Cyanide Sisters EP, the recently released "Fairlight" single, a grip of remixes for artists like Twin Shadow, Neon Indian, Daft Punk, and a few floating MP3s, Truise's first LP, Galactic Melt, has already entered our chambers to critical acclaim. This fall, Truise is bringing his live show back on the road with Active Child and Neon Indian as well.

Haley envisioned Galactic Melt as a "sort of film score...from the mind," chronicling the lift and death of Com Truise, the world's first synthetic/robotic astronaut, from his creation and life on earth to his subsequent mission to a newly discovered galaxy called "Wave 1." Eventually, Truise becomes one with his newfound cosmos, like Pinocchio becoming a real boy, but in the nether regions of imaginary space. An admitted synth obsessive, Com Truise is the maker of an experimental and bottom heavy style he calls "mid-fi synth-wave, slow-motion funk".

While subliminally informed by both parental record collections and hints of faded electronics product design, Haley's Com Truise project isn't just nostalgia capitalization. There are fragments (read: DNA strands) of Joy Division, New Order, and the Cocteau Twins, but it's like you're hearing them through the motherboard of a waterlogged Xbox-demented and modern.

He's recently remixed Neon Indian, Twin Shadow and most fittingly Daft Punk's Tron Soundtrack.

He's got a way of making familiar things sound beautifully hand-smeared. It's a world unto itself, a sci-fi cosmopolitan of sorts, and a look into digital evolution of the mind.

In support of Galactic Melt, Com Truise will be on tour in North America supporting Active Child and Neon Indian in the fall of 2011, with a special one-off showcase of the Ghostly International label at Bumbershoot Music Festival. Tour dates below.

WHAT THE PRESS IS SAYING ABOUT GALACTIC MELT:

"...one of this year's most exciting prospects." - The Guardian UK

"...with its staccato, bonus level synth stabs, keening psychedelia and 1980s-drenched drum sounds, Melt is still very identifiably Truise." - Pitchfork

"Boards of Canada meets Vangelis..." - SPIN
