BBC Radio 2 and BBC 6 Music Broadcaster Mark Radcliffe, heads out of the studio at the end of November for a short tour to present an evening of acoustic songs and stories, including readings from his book Reelin' In The Years, and debuts songs from his recent solo album 'What Remains of the Day'.
Mark's theatre show will feature acoustic renditions of songs from both his new album, and The Family Mahone back catalogue.
Along with readings from his new book, there will be general musings, ramblings and cheeky attempts to induce the audience to pass drinks towards the stage. Questions from the audience will be most welcome at any point, though preferably not in the middle of a song!
In 'Reelin’ in the Years', published by Simon & Schuster, Mark has taken one track to represent each year of his life so far. Starting in 1958 with "Move It" by Cliff Richard, each chapter examines the impact of that track on Mark's life and sets its chosen song within the wider context of pop culture at that time. There are also interviews with Jarvis Cocker, Guy Garvey, Richard Hawley, Brian Eno, Kraftwerk and of course those twin colossi of British pop Cliff Richard and Noddy Holder.
Mark's album 'What Remains Of The Day', on 101 Records, is a collection of reflective songs musing on lives and loves lived and lost. Following the decision to place his folk rock band The Family Mahone on indefinite hiatus, Mark retreated into the studio to record the songs that seemed to demand more sensitivity than that afforded by the rollicking Mahones approach. Ably assisted with this by fellow Mahone, and esteemed folk musician, Chris Lee, who will also be on the road with Mark for these theatre performances.
'Reelin' in the Years' and 'What Remains of the Day' were both released in May 2011.
