Buxter Hoot'n - West Coast Tour Dates; NPR + Listen to Album Tracks

Buxter Hoot'n

Buxter Hoot'n, the Bay Area Indie Americana rock outfit hailed as "one of the great American bands today" (Relix) and "guardians of what Gram Parsons famously termed 'Cosmic American Music'" (Dirty Impound), extends its 5th anniversary tour in January with a West Coast swing behind its acclaimed self-titled third album.

A national radio audience will get a live tour preview on NPR when the band performs January 7, 2012 on Sedge Thomson's West Coast Live from the David Brower Center in Berkeley, CA, prior to their tour warm-up that night at San Francisco's Café du Nord. Check local listings or listen to the live stream at kalw.org.

Following a fall trek through the Midwest, the 2nd leg takes Buxter Hoot'n from the Pacific Northwest through Southern California, officially launching January 18 at the Sunset Tavern in Seattle, and winding up Jan. 28 at the Uptown Nightclub in Oakland, CA.

Other stops include Los Angeles; Portland, OR; Eugene, OR; Santa Cruz, CA; and a hometown concert in San Francisco (Jan. 25), where the SF Weekly elevated the band to "a classier plain of Americana among the likes of Bob Dylan and The National and Counting Crows from back when they were good."

After the tour, the band will head for Chicago to record their fourth album, due for a summer release.

Buxter Hoot'n's current album is an uncompromising look into the sound and spirit of a young band at a creative peak with their Americana roots, '60s folk-inspired songwriting, classic rock backbone and pop sensibilities. Produced in three non-stop, magical days in Chicago by Grammy-nominated Greg Magers and the members of Buxter Hoot'n, the album showcases the band's superb musicianship.

Ben Andrews, one of the best young multi-instrumentalists in rock, layers his virtuosic violin and guitar riffs with Vince Dewald's and Melissa Merrill's intense and provocative vocals, Jimmy Dewald's explorative bass style, and Jeremy Shanok's sophisticated, improvisational drumming.

Listen to Buxter Hoot'n album tracks:

The first single, "Blue Night," epitomizes Buxter Hoot'n's mix of past and present into a standout, mellow indie rock back porch swinger.

The story-driven "In The Morning" lyrically echoes Bob Dylan's early loner love ballads, while retaining the fiery rock 'n' roll that drove his mid-'60s and '70s work with The Band.

Dylan-esque instrumentation is also present on the soaring harmonica of "Out The Door" and the finger picked opening of "Mariel," which effortlessly transitions into a colorful rock world forged by the Beatles.

In the spirit of '60s protest songs, "Chief Justice Shepard" questions authority figures and the fairness of the legal system. Other highlights include the haunting fiddle showcase, "Go Get Your Gun" along with "Cover Band" and "Spill Some Juice On Me," two down-home, Allmans-style Southern rockers.
