R&B Star Avant in Middle East, performs for US Troops

Heeding the admirable, longstanding tradition of music artists' entertaining U.S. troops abroad, R&B superstar Avant is currently performing in Iraq.

The platinum selling R&B star, recently signed to Capitol Records, was motivated and honored to make the trip in order to raise the morale of U.S. Armed Forces stationed in Iraq and Kuwait. The show dates run from August 23rd to September 1st, 2008.

The series of shows, orchestrated by AKA Productions, is a logistical feat. In addition to performing at larger bases in Iraq and Kuwait, Avant is being whisked by helicopter to Forward Operating Bases. Singing in secret locations to audiences of undisclosed sizes, Avant is literally going the extra mile for his country and his career. But his sincerity and his passion are nothing new.

The album, 'Avant', drops October 28th, 2008 on Capitol Records.

The lead single, "When It Hurts," which impacted radio on August 4th, displays the singer at his soulful, introspective best. An accompanying video, shot by exalted director Billy Woodruff (Outkast, R. Kelly, Mary J. Blige) is up next.
