While We Are Standard may be an unfamiliar name to us Brits, their sweltering electro-post punk is as hot as the summer temperatures in their native Spain.

As they throw their hat into to the UK ring, their forthcoming eponymous album finds them exchanging blows with musical heavyweights Arthur Baker and Andy Gill.

Recorded on an 8-month period of back and forth travel between Spain and the UK, the album was produced by Gang of Four's legendary axe-man Andy Gill who has also provided knob twiddling duties for The Young Knives, Futureheads and Rumble Strips.

The idea behind putting Andy Gill at the controls was to give the band a more minimal sound; "We figured he'd strip down the recording, take out some instruments, and give the songs space to breathe. We were expecting something like an electro version of Entertainment! What we didn't expect, but were equally thrilled to find, was a producer and a band testing the limits of studio production".

'We Are Standard' was polished off and mastered by Simon Davey (Chromeo, Amy Winehouse, DJ Shadow, Scissor Sisters).

Their new single "The Last Time" is out on April 5, 2010 also appears on the album.

After his recent success with BBC Sound of 2010 nominees Hurts and their remixed single "Wonderful Life", Arthur Baker was on hand once again to provide a second glorious example in 2010 as to why he is still regarded as one of the World's Best after 30 years in the business.

After a string of incandescent festival performances in 2009 at SXSW, CMJ, Germany's Popkomn and back home at Benicassim, their impressive year ended with them being crowned 'Best Spanish Band' at the MTV European Music Awards. Now its time for them to take the UK.
