The Tender Box / Deadbeat Darling West Coast Tour Spring 2010
Tremendous, incandescent British rock music is probably the last thing that comes to mind when you think of South Gate, Los Angeles, but, four Mexican-American childhood friends were born and bred in the hood where the only other well known band to come out of it has been Cypress Hill.
So it's a breathtaking revelation when you hear the chiming guitars and swooning vocals of The Tender Box who will release EP 2, their new EP produced by the legendary Jack Douglas (Aerosmith, Cheap Trick, John Lennon) this summer.
Originally inspired by the post punk and synth pop groups of the 1980s, the band - Joey Medina (vocals, guitar), Raul Martinez (guitar), Steve Mungarro (bass, vocals) and Chuck Gil (drums) - have expanded on their sound as revealed on their 2007 debut album The Score.
With the help of Kobalt Publishing the band have been scoring synchs with Chevrolet, Nike, Apple and even wrote the theme song to The Spectacular Spiderman Cartoon Series. They have have played the UK supporting The Goo Goo Dolls on a sold out tour, where they hung out with the infamous Pete Doherty (Libertines, Baby Shambles) and Mani (Stone Roses, Primal Scream).
Appearances on the Carson Daly Show, solid radio play and internet buzz led to a North American tour with She Wants Revenge and Kill Hannah, and their song "Havoc" was just released on the new Shaun White Snowboarding World Stage game for Wii.
Juxtapose The Tender Box with Deadbeat Darling, a quartet whose origins traverse the globe. Their mesmeric, shimmering arrangements were conceived by Austin's Joseph King upon his arrival to New York City, and with the cast assembled Deadbeat Darling began playing club shows throughout the city and the surrounding areas.
In the Summer of 2007 they hooked up with producer Chris Coady (TV on the Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Blonde Redhead) to record their debut EP 'belle epoch,' and promptly began selling out Lower East Side clubs such as Pianos, and Mercury Lounge. Support slots at Bowery Ballroom and Highline Ballroom soon followed, which included sharing the stage with bands such as Ambulance LTD and VAST.
In 2008 Deadbeat Darling were back in the studio and the release of their guerrilla-style full length album 'Weight of Wandering' was celebrated with a sold out show at New York City's The Bowery Ballroom, followed by tours of Texas and the Midwest, the latter in support of Platinum-selling artists Blue October.
As The Deli Magazine raves, "Weight of Wandering" brims with moody, vibrant rock powdered by the sort of romance and melodrama best delivered in a cavernous arena, exposing hints of dub and reggae that accompany King's soaring vocals.
In the past two years Deadbeat Darling has participated in some of the country's most esteemed music festivals including Austin's South by Southwest and New York City's CMJ.
Deadbeat Darling is Joseph King (lead vocals, guitar), Mohit Bhansali (lead guitar, vocals), Sanjay Jain (bass, electronica, vocals) and Evan Howard (drums, percussion).
Warning: Will turn audiences into a cohesive dance machine.
