June 19, 20, 22 - Folkstar Vagabonds tour hop off the bus in Montreal
Freshly formed touring duo, the Folkstar Vagabonds, are hitting the road this June for a cross-Canada tour and are making a highly anticipated stop in Montreal.
Indie Songsmiths Elaine Ryan and Melissa Bandura will be serenading Canadian and Quebec audiences with their sweet voices and new tunes, with several shows in Montreal.
Their first Montreal show is on Saturday June 19, 2010 at the Aquarium bar, 2923 Masson, at 10pm. They also play the following night, June 20th, at Le Cagibi, 5490 boulevard Saint-Laurnet at 8pm. Their final show before heading back west is Tuesday June 22nd, at 10pm at Brutopia, 1215 Rue Crescent, with awesome local band Cab (www.cabmusic.ca).
Ms. Ryan, who hails from Vancouver, British Columbia is touring her debut full-length album, Songs From the River, to be released this May, and has performed at myriad festivals from Austin, Texas to Mont-Trembant, Quebec. She mesmerizes audiences in Vancouver, Maui and Montreal and has sung her heart out on the streets and trams of Spain and Switzerland.
Elaine Ryan's award-winning song "Dream of Peace" was included in last year's Dream On! Compilation album dedicated to the memory and work of Martin Luther King Jr. (www.thedreamcontinued.org.) Her first short recording, the Sisters EP was released in 2007.
Ms. Bandura, also from Vancouver, is promoting songs from her upcoming solo album, Dark Dreams, and will be touching on songs from her band's 2007 album Lily Come Down, played nationwide on radio.
She has written and performed soundtracks for international dance festivals, Circuses and various Indie Films including award winning Let No One Put Asunder and festival-touring Drive.
Melissa Bandura has sung on the stages of the Vancouver Jazz Festival, New Music West, and toured central BC's various, amazing folk festivals. She is now a proud member of international touring music group and local latin jazz connoisseurs, The Colorifics, and plays fiddle for touring country rocker and Calgary favorite, Kent McAllister.
As a poignant writer of love songs, political love songs and songs that are just plain political, Elaine creates lyrics that strike a chord, blending poetry with precision, humility with honesty. "For me, the lyrics are essential. I love to sing and make music, but I wouldn't be doing this if I didn't have a passion for writing," she explains.
Melissa takes inspiration from her past career as a dancer and puts movement into her music through the use of eccentric chord changes, unconventional meters, flowing melodies, and interesting harmonies. She paints pictures with her words and loves to get metaphorical. Melissa describes her music as "quirky folk: think of dwarves skipping through the forest carrying violins!". Her new album makes use of symphonic arrangements and can be termed as Orchestral Folk.
