After the success of last year's Traveling Circus & Medicine Show with Augustana and Michael Franti & Spearhead, Counting Crows are bringing it back this summer.
Augustana join the Crows again, and this time they also welcome rapper NOTAR.
The tour kicks off July 3rd in Milwaukee, WI at SummerFest. The show is a bit of a different format where the three acts (and some special guests along the way) will combine to play together in addition to playing their own sets: there's no "opener" or "headliner" - so attendees should plan to get there early.
The tour includes stops at some of the best summer amphitheaters in the country. For tickets and tour info visit www.countingcrows.com.
A message from Counting Crows front man Adam Duritz:
"A reporter once asked me why I loved being in a band. I told him as simply as I could: 'I love the jazz of it.' I still do. I love the feeling of surprise and joy when something unexpected happens, when one of my pals plays something new and, in that split second, I hear it and sing new in response.
I believe rock and roll should always revolt against itself, always insist on the unexpected, whether it's as simple as verse or a moment in a band's performance or as huge as the appearance of The Dead Boys or Television or N.W.A. or Stew or Dashboard Confessional or Run-DMC to change our whole preconception of what Rock and Roll is.
That's why I love The Traveling Circus & Medicine Show. Playing with Counting Crows and also with all the combos of different guys from different bands gives me the chance to constantly be surprised. The kick of singing with the Augustana guys makes my head spin every night and we're adding an element of hip-hop to the mix as well this summer by bringing NOTAR out with us.
Nowadays people think they can only love one kind of music but I want to show them that they can love it all the way I do. I don't know how these different bands are going to fit in one show together but I didn't know that last year either and it was a blast.
Just remember what I said last year: Come out early because from the first moment the curtain rises on the Medicine Show, we're all going to be up there on that stage together. Come late and you'll miss part of the show. Get there on time and I promise you you'll leave remembering the day the Circus came to town."
