Music to dance and sing to. Now, isn't that what summer is all about? The roots-rock sound of The Matinée evoke memories of family camping trips, guitars around the fire, and the open road. Their music's rising tempos bring audiences to their feet; the room full of clapping and dancing is what captivates the soul and leaves people cheering for more!

This summer the boys from The Matinée have been selected as part of the top 10 for The Shore 104.3 Fm's The Sounds of Summer Song Search competition, an acoustic songwriting contest open to Canadian artists living in BC.

Judges from The Shore and the Vancouver music industry narrowed the list of hundreds of musicians down to 10, of which, the fans can then vote for their favorite song.

As part of the top 10, the Matinée get to participate in the Rock Enroll program, a music business crash course with the renowned Dave Chesney, as well as receive an amazing prize pack worth thousands of dollars in career support!

"It's great to have radio stations like this that are supporting local artists quite heavily," said Matt Layzell.

If you like Kings of Leon, The Black Crowes, and old Bruce Springsteen, you'll love these lads from blue-collar British Columbia. Their performances are dynamic, whimsical, and enthusiastic with a do-it-yourself roots flavour that contrasts their crisp professionalism.

They've embarked on multiple provincial and national tours, playing for colleges and high schools with both the BC Arts Council's Artstarts Program, and the BC Schizophrenia Society's Reach-out tour, which has given them the opportunity to add Yukon, Haida Gwaii, and several prisons to their repertoire of tour stops.
