Pure Swing compilation ft Bobby Brown, Jodeci, Mary J Blige, more

Pure Swing - The biggest swing compilation is back - Universal Music

Pure Swing

For many of today's urban music buyers this is the original super brand. There were six titles released in the series, that achieved total sales in excess of 1.3 million copies.

The first Pure Swing issued in the Spring of 1995 was perfectly timed, instantly striking a chord with a young audience and quickly surpassing platinum status. However, it was the fourth volume that was the brands best seller, which topped the charts.

The iconic imagery chosen for each project was the topless torso of a fit guy, posing with a good looking girl on his shoulder. The very distinctive logo created and used on the front of his boxer shorts and as a necklace, was the look of the day. Many artists and their followers wore low rider jeans, to reveal their designer briefs and performed wearing lots of gold. This period could well be labelled as the birth of Bling.

In its day Pure Swing was renowned for showcasing future hits, as well as established artists that had emerged out of the New Jack Swing / Swingbeat scene, from the late eighties in the US. This genre was labelled as the first truly acceptable collaboration between Hip Hop and R&B.

The likes of R. Kelly, Jodeci, Soul For Real, Bobby Brown, Brandy, Blackstreet, Aaliyah, Coolio, TLC, The Whitehead Brothers, Mary J Blige, Joe, Wreckx-N-Effects, Adina Howard and Montell Jordan appeared on Pure Swing collections, as they were exploding onto the UK scene.

Britain eventually embraced this sound, which spawned many home grown artists, Mark Morrison, Shola Ama, Damage, Wayne Marshall and Beverley Knight, to name but a few.

Pure Swing is a very cool combination of credibility and commerciality that works well today as an Old Skool Classics/Anthems collection.

Now Pure Swing is back with a selection of the very best swing tracks ever.

Spread across 3 CDs, this album contains the very best anthems and some real gems for those Swing lovers.
