iLikeTrains announce new album 'He Who Saw The Deep'

iLikeTrains - He Who Saw The Deep

For the four members of iLikeTrains, the band is representative of something more than a simple musical outlet.

It is a combination of an artistic and intellectual aesthetic which is both unique and intensely compelling and has seen them recognized in publications as diverse as NME ('iceberg sized heavenly sounds'), The Financial Times, The Sun ('breathtakingly powerful'), RockSound ('a glacial beauty'), art magazine Aesthetica and Bizarre, not to mention radio coverage ranging from Radio One to The BBC's Politics Programme.

And now, following a long period of creative gestation the band are now ready to release their second full length effort entitled 'He Who Saw The Deep' via their own label, ILR.

Influenced by the books of James Lovelock and George Monbiot as well as the music of Mew, Jeniferever and Wild Beasts, 'He Who Saw The Deep' is another creative step forward for a band who are always pushing the envelope.

Moreover, iLikeTrains have sought to engage and give back to the fan base which continues to follow them so loyally via involvement with the Pledge music scheme. Fans have directly funded 'He Who Saw The Deep' and in exchange the band have offered up a host of unique gifts and experiences from hand bound and drawn lyric books to personal performances. It is this dedication to every facet of the artistic process and a determination to draw the fans closer into the entire experience which clearly sets iLikeTrains apart.

Guitarist / Vocalist David Martin said of the record:

"We have streamlined our sound. It is less reliant on sheets of reverb and delay. I think the record is more varied sonically too, and we have been more playful with rhythms and time signatures. Lyrically I have been looking to the future for inspiration, instead of the historical stories we have become associated with."

Guitarist Guy Bannister also revealed that the recording process was a significant departure from the bands previous releases:

"From the outset we wanted 'He Who Saw The Deep' to have a different sound from previous I LIKE TRAINS records. As Elegies... was recorded in an old Methodist chapel and The Christmas Tree Ship in an old textile mill, we thought we would track this album somewhere much smaller and more intimate. We took our gear up to a friend's farmhouse on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales in the weeks just before Christmas 2009, and huddling around an AGA we set about tracking the loudest elements of the record as the snow fell outside."

With an Autumn 2010 release scheduled 'He Who Saw The Deep' looks set to expand iLikeTrains creative vision and promises to be a treat for both loyal fans and newcomers to the band.
