Lotte Mullan: On Tour With Ben Montague and Al Lewis
Welcome To The New Breed Of Singer Songwriters
Lotte Mullan, the critically acclaimed British singer songwriter, is on tour once again, but this time with the dashing Ben Montague and Al Lewis in tow.
The trio are taking their captivating mix of influences and stories to the masses, not unlike the 'Stiff Tour' of 1977. Lotte, Ben and Al will be the new Elvis Costello, Ian Dury and Nick Lowe as they travel around performing, collaborating and hanging out.
Already keen to return to the road after her successful Caffeine Tour, Lotte has said "I'm really looking forward to re-creating the songwriters' circle and getting out on tour with the guys- I'm hoping it'll be all 'peace, love and happiness' like Janis, Jimi and Joni! It's great to be part of a team and dispel the myth of the solitary singer-songwriter figure, it should be about fun, sharing songs and making people sing along!"
Lotte's touring companions are no strangers to the stage, Ben Montague headlined the Isle Of Wight's Acoustic Stage this year, and Al Lewis performed alongside Mark Ronson at Wakestock Festival, and she has just completed a whirlwind tour of 20 Caffe Neros in 10 days showcasing her rootsy songs: a captivating mix of soul, folk and country that tell stories of characters and experience we know all too well.
The songs Lotte will be sharing come from her debut album 'Plain Jane', an album about finding her own voice and sharing her own experiences which Mullan says she wanted to sound "very much like a First Record. I wanted there to be a certain naivety to it." The record was inspired by two key events. Firstly, the record collection her Dad left behind after her parents divorced when she was four years old: it contained gems from the likes of Rickie Lee Jones, Bobbie Gentry, Kirsty Macoll and The Beatles. Then, at secondary school, Lotte spotted a strange boy with big headphones who would walk around the school in silence. A curious Mullan desperately sought out the music he listened to (old blues and folk from the 30s), falling in love with both the artists and the boy himself. The music she fell in love with lasted longer than the boy though.
Lotte Mullan will release her debut album, Plain Jane, through her own label Raindog Records on January 10th. It will be preceded by the single "Can't Find The Words" on December 6th. However, copies of her album will be available for sale on the tour.
