Norwegian "Punk-Pop Spitfire" Ida Maria (as she was characterized by Rolling Stone) has completed her second album, entitled KATLA produced by Butch Walker (Weezer, Katy Perry, Pete Yorn), set for June 7th digital release on Mercury Records.
KATLA's first single "Bad Karma" is available now on the iTunes Store.
Two tracks have jumped out in advance of the street date, "Bad Karma" and "Cherry Red." "Bad Karma" has already been tagged for major placements in the movie Scream 4, and in the trailer for Focus Features' It's Kind Of A Funny Story; as well as promos for FOX Broadcasting's Lie To Me, and USA's Royal Pains. You can hear both tracks on her website and facebook page.
Ida Maria first began making waves in the U.S. two years ago, when her debut single in this country, "I Like You So Much Better When You're Naked" (featured on NBC tv's Friday Night Lights) reached the Top 40 on Billboard's Modern Rock chart, with over 3.2 million MySpace plays and over 1.3 million YouTube views.
Ida Maria made headlines again with the video for the follow-up single, "Oh My God" featuring punk icon Iggy Pop, shot in New York and in Iggy's adopted hometown of Miami Beach. "Oh My God" (which aired on Gossip Girl TV promos and on Showtime's Nurse Jackie) has logged over 2.9 million views on YouTube to date.

"I Like You So Much Better When You're Naked" and "Oh My God" are both from Ida Maria's debut album, Fortress 'Round My Heart, which rose to #12 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart and #32 on the Top Indie Albums chart.
"Ida Maria throws herself into every song as if it's all a big finale," wrote SPIN magazine, "which makes for an auspicious beginning." SPIN picked Fortress as "one of the best albums of 2009 so far."
Ida Maria intensively toured America in support of Fortress' release, starting at the SXSW Conference in March, then California's Coachella Festival in April. Another two months of shows climaxed with two weeks of dates with Scottish alt-rock darlings Glasvegas, leading up to Ida Maria's heroic performance in 100-degree heat at the Lollapalooza festival in Chicago's Grant Park.
She went on to headline the fall's all-star PerezHilton.com tour, and was picked by rule-breaking designer Betsey Johnson to perform at her show at The Plaza Hotel during New York City's Fashion Week. "Oh My God," raved Johnson, echoing the single, "I'm so excited! Can't wait to have Ida Maria ROCK us out at my fashion show."
"This year's most exciting debut comes from this Norwegian dynamo. A cross between Courtney Love, Karen O and Avril Lavigne, she's one of the baddest rock chicks to come around in a long time." - People magazine
"She's an IT Girl that bighearted young women deserve." - The Los Angeles Times
"Meet the Norwegian garage-pop singer of your future." - Rolling Stone
