Oxford based Rainbow Reservoir - Love Me EP + "Normal Girl" video

Rainbow Reservoir

Rainbow Reservoir is a brand new musical project from Oxford based, world renowned classical saxophonist, multi instrumentalist and vocalist Angela Space.

Inspired by the musical richness and quirky, heart rending lyricism of The Magnetic Fields, the forthright Americana melodicism of Kimya Dawson and Eels and the surrealist storytelling of Jeffrey Lewis, Rainbow Reservoir is a jewel in the rich crown of the ever blossoming Oxford music scene.

The debut EP from Rainbow Reservoir, Love Me, is a rich joy of minimalist piano figures, quirky, alt pop story telling and rich, folk influenced songwriting. Recorded with renowned engineer Mickie Taylor at Hats Off studios in Stonesfield, Oxfordshire Love Me is a set of nostalgic hymns for the loss of innocence and the feeling of searching for but never quite finding the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Rainbow Reservoir - "Normal Girl" video:

Being from a classical background Angela isn't afraid to dabble in harmony and melody inspired by the masters. Echoes of Debussy, Chopin and Prokofiev ring through Angela's chiming, understatedly beautiful compositions.

Originally a pianist, Angela took up the saxophone in order to play in her high school band and, before long, she'd completed a graduate degree in classical saxophone and was regularly playing with the New World Symphony, the Florida Philharmonic and The Temptations. During this time Angela performed to thousands of people including none other than Bill Clinton.

Angela grew up in a tobacco farming town in suburban Connecticut, near the local airport and a stones throw away from Rainbow Reservoir. Her longing for a simpler and more pastoral world clearly still informs the whimsical tinge to the music of Rainbow Reservoir.

Rainbow Reservoir made her first live performance July 2012 opening for Oxonian Americana heroes The Epstein at their show at King's Place, London as part of Folk Union festival. The gig was followed by RR's Oxford debut @ St Michael At The Northgate Church, supporting Two Wings and Eric Chenaux.
