LOREENA McKENNITT NOMINATED FOR GRAMMY AWARD FOR HER LATEST ALBUM, TROUBADOURS ON THE RHINE

Loreena McKennitt has been nominated for a Grammy Award in the New Age category for her album Troubadours On the Rhine.

This is the second Grammy nomination for the singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist – she was nominated for Best Contemporary World Music Album in 2007 for her best-selling album An Ancient Muse.

“I’m a little surprised to find myself as a New Age nominee,” she says, “I’ve always seen my music in the ‘world’ category – but I think now, as the music business changes, categories seem less and less important. I’m very grateful to have this sort of recognition.”

Troubadours on the Rhine is Loreena McKennitt’s first-ever “unplugged” recording. Recorded live during a performance at Germany’s SWR1 Radio, the album features the singer in a unique radio performance in a “house concert” setting. McKennitt’s group features Brian Hughes (guitars) and Caroline Lavelle (cello) who have long been part of her tours and recordings. McKennitt is currently wrapping up a tour in Canada following a run of more than 40 sold out concerts and festivals in Europe this summer.

Other artists nominated for New Age Album of the Year are Omar Akram, Krishna Das, Michel Brant Demaria, Steve Halpern and Peter Kater.

“A career-spanning adventure…McKennitt brings her celestial visions to life..” – The Republican

“Troubadours on the Rhine captures the Canadian harpist/vocalist at her most intimate.” – All Music
