NOAH FRANCIS JOHNSON TO RELEASE LIFE & TIMES L.P PUBLISHED BY UNIVERSAL AND DISTRIBUTED BY WARNER

Noah Francis Johnson releases his first solo album entitled ‘Life & Times’ on the 24th February, 2014 published by Universal Publishing, Last Ten Music Group and distributed by Warner Music.

Noah’s career has catapulted since touring the UK and Europe supporting the likes of Jamiroquai, Lenny Kravitz as well as soul and jazz poet Gil Scott Heron to name a few. From London to Los Angeles this soulful and deeply personal album includes an extensive catalog of world-class musicians, composers, engineers and producers recorded at Abbey Road and Metropolis Studios.

‘Life & Times’ is mostly autobiographical.

Noah Francis Johnson quotes: “In the moments writing the album I knew I was writing something that deeply defined so many facets of me- my conflicting feelings, reflections of family lost, a child loved, appreciation for the honest man, truth, all carved, shaped and made by the man that inspired me, my father. He had an incredible effect on me, not only as a musician, but as a human being. More than just a culmination of memories, Life and Times is my awakening, letting go, about finding myself”.

Inspired lyrically by Bob Dylan, what strikes you immediately is Noah’s ability to characterize and express his personal feelings. Piercing the membranous layer of superficiality so many artists find so difficult to describe without sounding cliched, Noah’s lyrics come to life because he brings them to life, excavating emotionally resonant insights out of words and melody. He is a chronicler of a committed musical journey seamlessly weaving rock, folk and sweet soul with delicate human emotion.

Brought up listening and performing to greats such as Marvin Gaye and Frank Sinatra, Noah is blessed with a versatile range, depth, richness and power that comes straight from the heart. Not unlike Gaye, Noah’s diversity has given him the ability to sing rock and roll, blues, soul, practically anything for that matter and make it his own. The albums journey brings about all of these influences, all the while proving himself as a great songwriter and wordsmith. With co-production courtesy of Chris Kimsey, best known for his work with The Rolling Stones, the music is crafted with a storytelling quality about it, brimming with catchy, melodic hooks bound for longevity.

The number of prestigious musicians/ engineers that have contributed to the album is far too long to list; but after a quick glance it is exciting to acknowledge producer Bob Clearmountain who was nominated for four Grammy Awards, artists such as guitarist Gary Grainger well known for his work with David Bowie and Pete Townsend, Pandit Dinesh known as “The Godfather of Percussion” and Edd Hartwell who has worked for renowned acts such as Jeff Beck. Not to mention two time MOBO award winner Kele Le Roc who is a backing vocalist featured on Life & Times; quoting Noah as “an exceptional talent, whose writing touches upon something unique and genuine”.

Noah Francis Johnson has already conducted a U.K Radio Interview tour broadcast on stations such as THE EAGLE (UKRD), BBC Radio Wales, BBC Radio WM, RADIO Cardiff, SMOOTH Radio, BBC Radio Stoke, BBC Radio Manchester, Yorkshire Radio, BBC Radio Leeds, BBC Radio Merseyside, BBC Radio Sheffield, BBC Radio Nottingham, Q Radio and many more.

Expect imminent updates about Noah Francis Johnson and his exciting new album ‘Life & Times’.

“ANYTHING,” THE FIRST SINGLE FROM EP OF THE SAME NAME TO BE RELEASED DECEMBER 3!

Capitol Records is pleased to announce that it has signed Hedley. The label will release “Anything,” the Vancouver, BC-based band’s new single, which is imbued with a rowdy “the sky’s the limit” sensibility and EP of the same name on December 3, 2013. “Anything” is already a smash hit in Canada, where it has been certified Platinum.

Bass player Tommy Mac describes the accompanying “Anything” video as “the house party of your dreams or nightmares, we’re not really sure which.” The band members and their guests – in various states of undress, cross-dress and dress-up and with tongues planted firmly in cheeks (and elsewhere) – poke fun at pop culture in the clip, which can be seen below.

Hedley – Anything (Explicit) video:

Hedley – Jacob Hoggard (vocals, piano and guitar), Dave Rosin (guitar), Tommy Mac (bass) and Chris Crippin (drums) – has sold more than two million digital singles, racked up over 34 million views on VEVO and taken home numerous awards for its inventive videos. The band is one of the biggest touring acts in Canada. As ambassadors for Free The Children, an international charity and educational partner working to empower and enable youth to be agents of change, Hedley has spearheaded fundraising activities at home and traveled to three different continents. Other Free The Children ambassadors include Mia Farrow, Martin Sheen and Natalie Portman.

Tracklisting for Anything EP is:

1. Anything
2. Headphones
3. I’ll Be With You
4. Mexico
5. Heaven in Our Headlights

Capitol will release the Hedley full length in early 2014.

STEPHEN BASS OF MOSHI MOSHI LAUNCHES NEW LABEL PRAH RECORDINGS

PRAH Recordings – a new label set up by Stephen Bass of Moshi Moshi – announces its first release from renowned cellist Oliver Coates.

Coates straddles the worlds of classical and contemporary music, winning plaudits for his collaborations with the likes of Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood, DOOM and Massive Attack – and likewise for concerto performances around the world notably with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and Britten Sinfonia.

His arrangement of the Boards of Canada track “In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country” was produced with Mira Calix and released on the Warp 20th anniversary box set to wide acclaim. Coates followed this with a duo album of cello drone and electronic noise with the long-term Brian Eno collaborator Leo Abrahams, entitled Crystals are Always Forming.

Towards the blessed islands (the title taken from a poem by Norman MacCaig) is Coates debut album and devotes itself to rich sounds and clear harmonies which develop slowly over time. The cello is tuned or strung differently, or thrown into an unusual playing method on every track. “Think Sonic Youth and their guitars” says Coates.

Towards the blessed islands track listing:

1. The room is the resonator – David Fennessy
2. Cello & Autoharps – Max de Wardener
3. Cello & Whirlies – Max de Wardener
4. Tommib Help Buss – Squarepusher
5. Kottos (live) – Iannis Xenakis
6. Raimondas Rumsas – Laurence Crane
7. The clouds flew round with the clouds – Larry Goves
8. Another Day – Roy Harper / This Mortal Coil

Reflecting a decision this year to explore a different approach to space, architecture and music making, Coates didn’t use a conventional studio set up to record the album, opting instead to use churches, tombs, disused oil rigs and taking field recordings in railway stations at night.

He developed these principles further on a project with field recordist Chris Watson, using music by Britten and environmental sounds for a project in Suffolk and built an installation called The Seafarer in the dark corridors around the Royal Festival Hall boiler room, using music by Messiaen and projecting old Anglo-Saxon poetry.

Coates is a frequent collaborator with Micachu, both live and in recording, and most recently his harmonics and textures can be heard throughout the film Under the Skin, whose soundtrack is scored by Micachu. And as Artist in Residence at the Southbank Centre, Coates curates Harmonic Series, showcasing music and film and featuring James Blake, Anna Meredith and Olivia Chaney among others. He has performed Music for 18 Musicians with Steve Reich and worked closely with Helmut Lachenmann and Thomas Adès.

PRAH Recordings has been set up says Bass, “to allow a completely free and open release schedule that can encompass anything from contemporary classical and experimental to soundtrack recordings, spoken word and re-issues.”

PRAH Recordings will host an evening of music at The House Of St Barnabus, 1 Greek St, London W1 on 5th November, 2013. Composer Larry Goves will DJ in between sets from Anna Meredith, Oliver Coates and Aisha Orazbayeva.

We Are Scientists announce new track “Something About You” And sign UK and European deal with 100% Records

Speaking of the 7″, bassist Chris Cain said, “The new album’s finished, but we’re taking our time setting up the release, and we wanted to get something new to fans on the sooner side.”

“I guess ‘charity single’ is the wrong word for this,” said singer Keith Murray, “since none of the money generated will go to a good cause. But in the sense that we did this because we knew some of the fans desperately, desperately needed it – in that sense, yeah, it’s a charity single.”
