Will Young, The Stranglers and The King Blues have been added to the fantastic GuilFest 2009 line up of Motorhead, Brian Wilson (legendary member of The Beach Boys), Happy Mondays, Athlete, The Charlatans, The Wailers, Nouvelle Vague, Imelda May and Eat Static.

Will Young, iconic singer-songwriter, will be headlining the 2nd Stage on Sunday 12th July at GuilFest 2009! Four albums into his incredibly successful career, Will has racked up an astounding amount of awards and accolades in his comparatively short 8 years in the limelight. Having won the inaugural Pop Idol back in 2002, Will released his first single – a double A-side featuring Westlife’s song “Evergreen” and “Anything is Possible” which became fastest selling debut in UK chart history, selling over 400,000 copies on it’s first day, over 1.1million in its first week and went on to sell over 1.7 million total copies – 11th on the official list of all-time best selling singles. “Anything is Possible” won the Ivor Novello award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically.

Will has been nominated for 10 BRIT awards over the years, winning 2, and was voted the UK’s favourite artist ever in 2006 in a poll conducted by Commercial Radio – As if that wasn’t enough he received the same award the following year!

GuilFest are delighted to welcome Will to the line up at Stoke Park this summer.

English rock pioneers The Stranglers will be celebrating their 25th anniversary supporting Motorhead on the GuilFest Main Stage on Friday 10th July 2009. Originally called The Guildford Stranglers, first forming locally in Guildford in 1974, the bands straight talking approach gave them the reputation as aggressive and confrontational with their notoriety later embraced by the punk movement of 1977. This led to their debut single ‘Grip’ and their legendary first album Rattus Norvegicus. This was followed by such hits as ‘Peaches’, ‘No More Heroes’, ‘5 Minutes’, ‘Duchess’, ‘Something Better Change’, ‘Always the Sun’ and their ultimate classic ‘Golden Brown’.

To date the bands success boasts 24 top 40 singles and 18 top 40 albums over the last 25 years – GuilFest are delighted to welcome the band back to their home turf to rock the Main Stage.

Punk Reggae outfit The King Blues are set to headline the Rocksound Rock Cave at GuilFest on Sunday 12th July. Over the past 5 years The King Blues have toured all the best rock venues in the UK, playing at Wembley arena supporting hard-fi, headlining Dingwalls and the Islington Academy, playing at some of the top festivals and enjoying airplay on BBC Radio 1 – Zane Lowe has been championing their sound on his show since October 2008. Don’t miss what promises to be a truly excellent experience in the RockSound cave at GuilFest 2009.

Other festival attractions include the awesome Funky End Tent this year headlined by Eat Static on Friday 10th July, the Acoustic Stage, The Rock Disco, the new 70s disco, the eFestivals Cosmic Comedy Stage, The Man In The Moon Theatre Tent, The UNISONzone, and the incredibly popular Farmer Giles’ Barn Dance – so get on down and grab your partner for a bit of “Dosey – Doh!” – Superb cocktail bars, street performers, great arts and crafts, a fabulous selection of food from around the world and, as usual, the massive 150’ long bar means nobody has to wait very long for refreshment!

Children will find the KidZone by far the best to date with loads of fun, games, theatre and activities, not to mention the face painting!

The festival caters for visitors with disabilities – both the Main and 2nd stages have viewing platforms and the festival also provides a dedicated camping area, toilet facilities and stewards to facilitate your enjoyment of GuilFest. Car parking is right next to the festival site so no long walks heaving camping gear for anybody. Visitors with disabilities are recommended to visit the Accessibility pages on the festivals web site.

Facilities adjacent to Stoke Park include The Guildford Lido which is only 2 minutes walk and The Spectrum Leisure Centre, great for hot showers, sauna or a swim. The historic town is itself only 10minutes walk away and has shops, cafes restaurants, bars and pubs galore; Guildford even has its own castle!

Good afternoon. What a week it’s been! What with Obama’s Presidential procession and the world-haltering Inauguration, oh, and the Brit Award Nominations.

Here’s a look at the week that has been.

MBC artists received 6 nominations for this year’s Brit Awards on Tuesday. Duffy picked up four nominations (British Female Solo, British Breakthrough Act, British Single and British Album), a feat only matched by Coldplay.

Will Young celebrated his 30th birthday on Tuesday in true style with a nomination for British Male Solo. Will has been in Iceland filming the video for his excellent new single “Let It Go”, released March 2nd.

After scoring his first-ever UK No. 1 last year, Neil Diamond will battle it out for the International Male Solo award at the Brits next month.

MBC artists were also on hand to welcome Barack Obama into the White House on Tuesday. Elvis Costello, Rufus Wainwright and Il Divo all played in what was a musical feast of epic portions, spread over 10 Inaugural Balls.

Elvis Costello headlined at the Creative Coalition Inaugural Ball on Tuesday evening. While Rufus Wainwright performed with Cyndi Lauper at the Gay Inauguration Ball, and Il Divo played at the Purple Ball.

Il Divo embark on their World Tour next month. Starting off at Manchester’s MEN Arena, Feb 21st, 2009, the world’s most successful operatic quartet will play 11 UK dates.

They will visit 30 European countries along the way, this will be followed by a 3 month North American tour, before heading to south America, Australia and Asia later in the year.

Il Divo’s new show will be staged and choreographed by William Baker (Kylie, Jamiroquai). The state of the art set also offers fans the chance to sit within the staging.

Just Jack’s hot new single “Embers” has been picking up more airplay. Lily Allen played the track when stepping in for Zane Lowe on his Radio One show this week. “Embers” is set for release March 30th, with his stunning new LP ‘All Night Cinema’ to follow in April.

‘Rachel Getting Married’ opens today. Robyn Hitchcock stars as a wedding guest in the film and also plays “Up To Our Nex”, a track written for the movie. The song also features on Robyn Hitchcock’s excellent LP ‘Goodnight Oslo’, out Feb 9th.

Robyn sets out on his UK tour in February, which includes an unmissable date at London’s Union Chapel (Feb 12th).

Karima Francis wowed the crowd at London’s Barfly on Monday. Karima performed an intimate acoustic gig, which featured a must-be-heard stripped-down version of Kings Of Leon’s “Use Somebody” and “Again” from her debut album ‘The Author’.

Delta Spirit tore through an incredible set at Water Rats on Monday, finding enough time to swap instruments on the way. Their hook-laden single “Trashcan” was released on Monday too.

The Fray return on Monday with the release of their stunning new single “You Found Me”. The track has been playlisted on Radio One and is featured on hit show ‘Lost’.

They are playing a special sold out date at the Scala, Feb 10th. They will be announcing details of a UK tour very shortly, so stay tuned.

Will Young has confirmed that he will make a special guest appearance on ITV’s phenomenal show, The X Factor on Saturday, November 1st, 2008, performing his forthcoming single “Grace”.

With new album ‘Let It Go’ out Monday September 29th, and radio smash first single “Changes” making the UK top ten, Will Young performs a T4 Special this Sunday lunchtime (September 28th, 2008) at 12:45 pm (BST).

Recorded at London’s Hospital, the half hour show features an interview with Will and full band performances of three album highlights: effervescent new single “Changes”, the anthemic “Grace”, and beautiful title track “Let It Go”, as well as a wonderful rendition of 2003 UK #1 “Leave Right Now”.

Will Young is punching up some big numbers with new single “Changes”. After an incredible 10,000 plays on UK radio, the track is #1 in the national airplay chart and #4 in the regional airplay charts. We’re expecting a top ten chart entry this weekend, with CD, video and digital bundle formats still to come on Monday. Listen out for Will on Jonathan Ross’ Radio 2 show this weekend. He also plays London’s Cadogan Hall next Thursday September 25th, 2008.

Stereophonics‘ new single “You’re My Star” received an exclusive first spin on Chris Moyles’ breakfast show Wednesday morning. Kelly was on top form despite coming straight from the band’s show at L.A.’s Henry Fonda theatre. Just a few more stops to go on the North American tour now, with the UK tour kicking off in December.

Primal Scream were the big winners at last night’s Vodafone Live Music Awards, scooping two prizes: “Best Live Act” and “Outstanding Contribution to Live Music”.

Mark Ronson, modelling a fantastic new pair of specs, walked away with “Best Live Male”, while Will Young and Primal Scream got the night’s biggest cheers for their performances.

Robert Plant and Alison Krauss were also winners last night, as the acclaimed duo were awarded “Album of the Year” and “Group of the Year” at Nashville’s Annual Americana Music Awards.

Anyone spotted Bill Bailey in the dole queue yet? Mark Ronson has pinched his seat on Never Mind The Buzzcocks for the new season opener, airing Thursday October 2nd on BBC2. Mark was great fun when he appeared as a guest in the last series, this should be even better.

Ship ahoy! Martha Wainwright is preparing for her October UK tour with a trip to Greenland, courtesy of the Cape Farewell project. Joining a crew that includes KT Tunstall, Feist, Jarvis Cocker and Robyn Hitchcock, Martha will see the impact of global warming at close quarters. New single “Comin’ Tonight” is out November 3rd, 2008.

Never ones to be outdone, Guillemots are planning a bit of potholing on their upcoming UK tour. The band play a series of unconventional November dates in caves, libraries and converted cinemas. Before then, it’s Wednesday’s premier of Simon Pegg’s new film How To Lose Friends & Alienate People, with the band playing the rooftop after party at Shoreditch House. New double A-side single “Kriss Kross / Clarion” is out Monday.

Teddy Thompson starts his UK tour next week, playing four headline dates before heading off to join James Blunt on his October arena tour. More Teddy headline dates coming up in January.

We think Aimee Mann should be made an honorary Englishwoman, after listing Elton John and Boddingtons as two of her greatest passions on ITV1’s “Soundtrack To My Life” last night. She gave a great interview, and also performed “Freeway” from her latest album. “@#%&! Smilers”. Look out for UK headline dates in October.

Aimee’s not the only one recognising her heroes – our very own Paolo Nutini is one of only twelve Celtic fanatics featured in the club’s forthcoming “Celtic Opus”. Half a metre square and weighing in at a massive 30kg, you’re going to need a big coffee table for this one!

Finally, look out for Dave Edmunds‘ greatest hits album out Monday September 22, 2008. He also performs as a special guest at Joe Brown’s 50th anniversary concert, taking place Wednesday at the Royal Albert Hall.

Madonna arrived in London last night when her acclaimed ‘Sticky & Sweet’ tour triumphed at Wembley Stadium. 74,000 thrilled to new hits “Candy Shop”, “4 Minutes” and “Give It 2 Me” while old favourites like “Borderline”, “Like A Prayer” and “La Isla Bonita” were given exciting new twists. Kate Hudson, Penelope Cruz, Fergie and Gwyneth Paltrow were among the worshippers. What a night!!

Sunday night’s 25th annual MTV Video Music Awards went down as one of the best ever, pulling in record ratings and introducing American television audiences to the inimitable Russell Brand – who won plaudits for a risqué, typically rock ‘n’ roll turn as host. According to Google Trends, “vma host” and “russell brand” were two of the top ten most searched-for phrases on the day of the awards.

Christina Aguilera provided the evening’s star turn with her scintillating performance of her spicy new single “Keeps Gettin’ Better” and a revved-up version of the classic “Genie In A Bottle” – both on the forthcoming hits collection “Keeps Gettin’ Better” due out this November.

If anyone finds a vintage Rickenbacker please call Peter Buck immediately!! This electric beauty was stolen after REM’s Helsinki show on Tuesday night. Will Young returns this weekend with “Changes”, the first single to be taken from his wonderful forthcoming album ‘Let It Go’. Both the Radio Edit and Chris Lake’s thumping remix are available digitally from Sunday 14th, with the physical single to follow on the 22nd. The remix has gone top 5 in the pop club charts.

Stereophonics have had a hectic North American tour so far. Last weekend they supported Oasis at Toronto’s V festival, Tuesday night they sold out Webster Hall in NYC where the cast of trendy hit show Gossip Girl including Chace Crawford were among those in attendance. Next week they conquer LA! Awesome new single “You’re My Star” hits the airwaves next week.

Martha Wainwright supports Goldfrapp at New York’s Radio City Music Hall tonight following in brother Rufus’ footsteps. He headlined the same venue earlier this year on his ‘Release The Stars’ tour. Catch Martha and her ace band on their 14 date UK tour next month.

Now that the VMA’s are over, MTV is readying itself for their European Music Awards which take place in Liverpool November 6th, 2008. Duffy has bagged 4 nominations while Madonna, REM, Christina Aguilera, Stereophonics and James Blunt have all been nominated.

Duffy has also been nominated for a MOBO Award – Best UK Female. What a glittering year she is having.

Dave Edmunds joined the Stray Cats on stage at Brixton Academy Wednesday night for rocking renditions of “The Race Is On” and “Tear It Up”. This followed last week’s truly memorable showcase at the Gibson Guitar Rooms. His hits collection ‘The Many Sides of Dave Edmunds’ is out September 22nd, 2008.

And finally congratulations to Elbow for their Mercury Prize win. Nominated ‘Raising Sand’ duo Robert Plant and Alison Krauss were both on hand for the celebrations.
