Further than tomorrow, a tribute to Matthew Jay

He has something special to share with the world. His first two records prove that effortlessly. Thanks to their potent subtlety and his endearing shyness, you’re in imminent danger of falling in love with Matthew’s graceful heart-rending voice. Siobhan Grogan, NME – 6 May 2000

Whether Matthew Jay will be as massive as he deserves to be – and believe it, he deserves a string of top 10 hits and undying critical adulation – isn’t what’s really important. What is important though, is that at just 21, he has the wonderful songs, the sumptuous voice and the gently sussed poise to become very precious indeed to those people willing to listen. You should be one of them. Rob Fitzpatrick, Melody Maker – 15 March 2000

On Friday 10th October 2008 at the Shepherds Bush Empire in London, 9 amazing acts will come together to remember one amazing artist, Matthew Jay, whom, just over 5 years ago at the age of 24 and on the cusp of richly deserved commercial success, we lost tragically, in what are still, unexplained circumstances.

Matthew was an overwhelming talent, as his amazing album ‘Draw’ will testify. The album was released to huge critical acclaim in March 2001 garnering unparalleled praise from Melody Maker and NME amongst numerous others.

Matthew also toured extensively with the likes of Dido, Travis, Doves, and Starsailor, and appeared on “LATER with Jools Holland“. Ultimately Matthew never got the level of recognition that we and everyone who is supporting this event know he would have achieved, had he lived.

He did however touch the hearts of everyone who heard him and he left some stunningly beautiful music which recently has been added to by the discovery of some unfinished demos which his family and Vasco have painstakingly and lovingly put together and realised as the album: Further Than Tomorrow.

Further Than Tomorrow is very aptly the name of the event where we will mark what would have been Matthew Jay’s 30th birthday in an evening celebrating his life and music with all profits going to his two favourite charities, Amnesty International & UNICEF.

Come along and see why Chris Difford (Squeeze), James Walsh (Starsailor) Kathryn Williams & Neill Maccoll, Passenger, Dlugokecki, Helen Boulding, The Matthew Jay Band, Henrik, New Shoes & Vasco and all those playing think so much of this extraordinary lost talent.

With over 4 hours of incredible music with each artist playing a favourite Jay track and their latest material and all for two very good causes help this concert take Matthew Jay and his musical legacy Further Than Tomorrow.
