Glasgow based Laki Mera are a 4 piece band with a singular take on cinematic trip hop atmospherics.

Laki Mera - How Dare You EP

Fronted by the angel voiced Laura Donnelly, they take their name from 'the Chimera', an illusion, a fleeting glimpse of a reality beyond.

The 'How Dare You' EP features remixes from Part-Time Heroes and Keyboard Choir and includes 2 quirky electronica tracks taken from Laki Mera's The Diet of Worms EP - Electronic Works Vol 1.

Currently just finishing off their new album 'The Proximity Effect', for release on Just Music early in 2011, the band have upcoming live dates in Scotland, including January's Celtic Connections.

With a deep history in a variety of genres, sharing influences from Miles Davis to Bob Marley to The Clash, their own album released on Wah Wah 45s, and also a remix album, Part-Time Heroes have dance floor oriented cuts and remixes of artists ranging from MJ Cloel, Yungun, Mosaic, and Citizen Cope. They host their own Hideout Sessions podcast series and are favourites of Gilles Peterson who has supported them on his show, recently describing them as a "Jazzier Zero 7".

Keyboard Choir are an electronica ensemble based in Oxford and London who make music with the turbulence and dynamics of traditional 'ensemble' performances from purely electronic sound sources and from 'found sound'. They have headlined shows in Oxford, Cambridge and London and also played alongside Brian Eno (invited to play at his birthday party), Coldcut, Metromony, The Egg, F**k Buttons and Frank Turner amongst others. In 2008 they released a critically acclaimed album and EP on Brainlove Records.

Now creating a name for themselves as remixers - a recent storming remix for Stornoway (and live collaborations) Keyboard Choir are currently working on remixes for Napoleon IIIrd, Thomas Truax and Chad Valley.

In the press:

"A sound that falls somewhere between the whispered minimalism of the XX and the glitchy percussion and abrasive electronica that characterised Portishead's recent work..Donnelly is ever the focal point and she manages a charming vulnerability a la Bjork while retaining control of each song..a performer who is naturally captivating" - the line of the best fit

"They sound like Laki Mera and that's rare for a band to sound different enough to stand out" -

"It serves as a suitably tantalising showcase of this Glaswegian foursome's skill in producing somewhat chaotic and unsettling pieces of music. The contrast of the pure child-like vocals, restrained by overtly simplified melodies, and the complicated and discomfiting music, layered and looped to produce something truly arresting, is stark throughout" - 8/10 The 405

"The ghost of trip hop hangs over the band..and in Donelly they have a wee starlet waiting to spread her wings" - Snipe

"Emotive, haunting and at times melancholic, Laura's stunning vocals resonate with the tapestry of spacey, ambient and cinematic atmospherics." - Anu Shukla

"The full band, fronted by the brilliantly talented singer, Laura Donnelly, moulded effortlessly into the scene, balancing intimacy with lifts of driving drumbeats and atmospheric electronica." - In The Mix

"Donnelly is the ghostly siren...her irresistible, tender vocal providing just the right amount of relatable humanity above a swirling digital backdrop. An arresting frontwoman who manages to capture your attention while rarely opening her eyes, her voice, reminiscent of Jean-Benoit Dunckel of Airs' electronically assisted vocal on perenneal 'sexy boy'" - God is in the tv
