Austin-based orchestral-pop ensemble Mother Falcon are currently giving away their new single "Pennies" as a free download on their Facebook page.
The track, which would be equally at home in a 1920s Speakeasy as a modern day arena, combines jazzy, whirling horns with an anthemic soundscape to create something inherently unique. It serves as a perfect introduction to the band's upcoming full length Alhambra (Rampart-arts) due out in late February.
Mother Falcon are currently making the transition from Austin cult favorite to the national stage. They recently released the video for their Metric meets The Decemberists single "Alligator Teeth" to much critical acclaim.
In just two years, the 18-piece collective has quickly grown into an award-winning, top drawing act in their native Austin. Having gained as many accolades from their work scoring plays and films as they have from their electric rock club performances, Mother Falcon is a collection of diverse musicians who's eclectic influences shine through in their music.

The band is known for making the most out of the large size of their line-up, which includes several multi-instrumentalists and vocal contributions from the majority of their members.
The ensemble began to coalesce around multi-instrumentalist and composer Nick Gregg nearly nine years ago, while he was a twelve year old cello student at The Austin Chamber Music Center.
Over the ensuing years, Mother Falcon grew as Nick met other students from youth orchestras around Austin and invited them to collaborate. While Gregg, along with Claire Puckett (Guitar/Piano), Tamir Khalifa (Accordion/PIano) and Isaac Winburne (Percussion/Sax) still serves as the creative core, as the band evolves, each member has begun to contribute musically.
The band is currently working on the score to the indie documentary Star Nation, and preparing to release Alhambra to a national audience.
You can check out a series of teasers for Alhambra. Stay tuned for many more announcements regarding one of Austin's most talented and eclectic new acts!
