On June 26th, modern pop maestro Diamond Rings returns with a brand new single "I'm Just Me" on Astralwerks.
The single is a track from his forthcoming full-length co-produced by the Grammy-nominated Damian Taylor (Bjork, The Killers, Prodigy, UNKLE, Robyn) due for release later this year.
This album will be a follow-up to 2010's Special Affections, whose unique melodies and heartfelt lyrics garnered widespread critical praise from not only Pitchfork but also The New York Times and NME.
This praise was topped off with head-turning performances at SXSW and CMJ as well as international tours with pop princess Robyn, dazzling new-waver, Twin Shadow and fellow Canadians, Junior Boys.
Diamond Rings - I'm Just Me video trailer:
Diamond Rings is the solo-project of Toronto-based artist and musician John O who burst onto the scene with an inventive home recorded video for his debut single "All Yr Songs". Featuring amateur green screen camera trickery, over the top choreography, and daring androgynous outfits and makeup, the video received international praise from both music nerds and fashionistas alike.
Audiences soon began to identify with Diamond Rings' uniquely lyrical brand of pop songwriting and his overtly glamorous live sets. But there's something surprisingly mature shimmering beneath the glamour, hidden in John O's immediately iconic voice, and whip-smart lyrics. Now, with the release of "I'm Just Me", Diamond Rings and his ever changing aesthetic have officially come out of the bedroom and into the nightclub.
Acclaim for Diamond Rings' first album Special Affections:
8.2 out of 10 - Pitchfork
8 out of 10 - SPIN
"One of Best New Bands Of 2010" - NME
