2010 Schedule:

(Dates and information subject to change.)

Elvis Costello (28 June) TICKETS ON SALE: Friday 26th March

Bursting onto the scene in 1977 amid the new wave explosion, Costello’s career has come a long way since his punk days. He is a giant of musical eclecticism and a distinguished lyricist. Over an astonishing career he has written some of the most memorable songs and fiercely literate lyrics of all time. He is simply one of the most influential and best songwriters of a generation.

Gil Scott-Heron (29 April)

plus support John Head

In 1971 Gil Scott-Heron laid out the blueprint for the whole rap genre with The Revolution Will Not Be Televised, and now, as vital as ever, he returns with his new album I'm New Here (XL Recordings) and this rare Liverpool show. One of the most important figures in 20th-century music, his thoughtful, provocative and still rebellious voice is something to be heard. John Head is the founder and lead guitarist of cult Liverpool indie band Shack.

Liverpool Arabic Arts Festival - Mohamed Mounir (9 July)

Coup for Liverpool Philharmonic Hall as Egyptian 'King' makes rare UK performance! Liverpool Philharmonic Hall is proud to announce the iconic Egyptian singer and film star, Mohamed Mounir, as the headline concert of Liverpool Arabic Arts Festival 2010. This exclusive, one-off UK performance is made all the more significant with 'The King' having only played the UK once before; a highlight both for Liverpool and this year's festival, Britain's only annual festival of Arabic art. His pop-oriented music has its roots in traditional Nubian music, from south Egypt and Sudan, and African reggae. He is widely considered a living legend in Egypt and regularly performs to crowds of tens of thousands at outdoor venues in Cairo. This is an extremely rare UK show and a fantastic opportunity to revel in the excitement and drama of 'The King' live.

Bob Harris (16 July)

Bob Harris curates the first weekend of Liverpool Summer Pops celebrating Americana, Roots and Country music. He compares an evening of conversation and music with some of his favourite artists. As we go to press Bob is lining up his ideal evening of musical delights, visit liverpoolphil.com for the full details which will be finalised very shortly.

Rhod Gilbert...and The Cat That Looked Like Nicholas Lyndhurst (11 & 12 September)

Due to phenomenal demand Rhod Gilbert ...and The Cat That Looked Like Nicholas Lyndhurst returns to Liverpool Philharmonic Hall for two extra dates. You may know Rhod Gilbert as the man who punched a shop-assistant over the duvet tog-rating system and went berserk over a mince pie. Now he's given his show a ridiculous title just to annoy someone in Canterbury. Is he a visionary in a sea of closed minds, or has he got anger-management problems?

Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings (3 May)

Rock 'n' roll icon, author and former Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman has seen it all and continues to live life to the full. His latest musical rebirth as the driving force behind the fabulous Rhythm Kings sees him return to his musical roots. This set of virtuoso musicians superbly bring back to life the kind of classic rhythm and blues that first inspired Wyman to pick up the guitar as a teenager. A show imbued with absolute quality.

An Evening with the Liverpool 1965 FA Cup Winners Team (11 May)

One of the greatest games in the long and illustrious history of the FA Cup, the 1965 final between Liverpool and Leeds United at Wembley was full of drama, and as Liverpool's first ever FA Cup final triumph, 1965 is a never to be forgotten moment in the history of the club. Relive it with Tommy Lawrence, Chris Lawler, Tommy Smith, 'Big' Ron Yeats, Gerry Byrne, Ian Callaghan, Willie Stevenson, Peter Thompson, 'Sir' Roger Hunt and Ian St John.

Super-Freakonomics Live! (21June)

An evening with Stephen Dubner

For the first time ever, Stephen J Dubner brings the intriguing world of Freakonomics to the stage in a bold, funny and entertaining evening. With super smart thinking and great storytelling he challenges the way we think, explores how people respond to incentives and shows the world for what it really is... super freaky. Steven D. Levitt's and Stephen J. Dubner's best-selling book Freakonomics, was a worldwide sensation, selling over four million copies in thirty-five languages and changing the way we look at the world. Their freakquel Superfreakonomics has met with similar world-wide attention and praise: 'Thrilling' Financial Times.

Al Murray - The Pub Landlord (12 November)

Al Murray The Pub Landlord is rolling out his Barrel of Fun, a brand new stand-up show for 2010. Britain's best-known Pub Philosopher will be serving up his own special brew of bar room banter at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall this autumn.

Kate Rusby (23 September)

The defining voice of contemporary English folk music, Kate Rusby's exquisite interpretations of traditional songs and finely wrought self penned tunes have won her an audience that reaches beyond the genre. A rare achievement for a folk artist but entirely understandable given Rusby's expressive vocals that invest whatever she sings with irresistible emotional depth. 'Folk music doesn't get any cooler than Kate Rusby' Q magazine

Fresh is back!
