The British Council's weekly radio show, The Selector, will be launched on its new UK platform, NME Radio, this Friday, 15th October, 2010 from 6-8pm.

The launch show features an interview with Carl Barat, two tracks in session from Brighton's Andreya Triana, a mix from big bass poster boy L-Vis 1990, and a celebration of twenty years of the Ninja Tune record label.

"We're very excited to bring The Selector to NME Radio. As a show funded by the British Council and now being produced by the brilliant team at Folded Wing, it's an important international showcase of the best new music from the UK. It's fantastic that listeners in the UK can now hear what we are proudly exporting to the World!" - Jason Bryant, Executive Chairman at NME Radio

"I'm so proud and excited to be joining the ranks of NME. The Selector is at the forefront of new, fresh, innovative British music and the NME, an iconic British musical institution, seems to be the perfect UK broadcasting home for the show." - Goldierocks, Presenter of The Selector

About The Selector

Launched by The British Council in 2001, The Selector is an international showcase for the best new music from the UK. The weekly two-hour programme covers all styles of contemporary music, from indie, grime, dubstep, folk, soul, electro and everything in between. The show also features artist interviews, mixes and exclusive studio sessions from some of the most exciting artists in the UK.

The Selector is syndicated to 20 countries around the world including Mexico, Columbia, Slovakia, Bosnia, Hungary, Indonesia, Vietnam and Armenia, and has an audience of over 1 million every week. The show exposes an international audience to new sounds and talents from the UK, and deliberately avoids the big pop names that can be heard on an average chart based show.

Friday's show on NME Radio will be the first produced by Folded Wing, an independent production company based in Clerkenwell. The Selector will be produced by John Cranmer who has previously worked across the BBC for Radio 2, 5 live, 6 Music, World Service and BBC Worldwide.

"Folded Wing are so excited to work with The British Council on The Selector radio show with DJ Goldierocks, promoting all genres of the best in UK music across the world. It will be at the heart of what we do as a company, creating high quality output with love and care and finding new platforms for the show across the globe... taking it to new heights and new audiences." - Folded Wing Director, Karen Pearson

Folded Wing

Folded Wing is the trading name for Karen P Productions Ltd; a company founded in 2006 by former BBC producer Karen Pearson. Karen produced the Gilles Peterson 'Worldwide' show on Radio 1 and around the world for over 5 years, and at Folded Wing is Director of the company and Senior Producer on the Jamie Cullum show for BBC Radio 2. Folded Wing produce radio, documentaries and podcasts for a number of clients including the BBC, Nike and Red Bull, alongside a number of international broadcasters including Tokyo's J-Wave FM. In 2008 the company was awarded a Sony Gold Award for the Book Slam podcast.

British Council

The Selector is a great example of how The British Council support the diversity of UK society and cultural output, helping to strengthen the international profile of the UK's creative sector and music industry by presenting sides of it not given profile overseas.
