Since its October release, Kokayi's critically acclaimed Robots & Dinosaurs has been charming listeners with its eclectic mix of hip-hop, electro, indie-rock, and soul sounds, and with the video for "RoxTar" Kokayi infuses a variety of those sounds, all the while artfully crafting an intricate story with lyrics made up of cleverly-composed band names: "I served the Bad Brains/Black Flags all hang/Pantera, mascara...Megadeath up in the streets, I'm Anthrax on stages."
In the video for "RoxTar," which was directed by Donlee Brussel, Kokayi's signature style is brought to life in one crazy trip, complete with The Rock-afire Explosion, who also appeared in a recent MGMT video and will be featured in an upcoming Adam Sandler movie, and one soon-to-be-infamous leopard print Snuggie.
The video takes its cues from classic rock, pop and hip-hop video archetypes, combining kitsch, attitude, and sex appeal.

"The imagery reflects the tongue-in-cheek nature of the song," explains Kokayi, who pays homage to Hype Williams and Michael Bay in the video. Old-School toy animals back Kokayi on drums bass and guitar, illuminated by stadium lights, to complete this crazy retro-futuristic-rock-and-roll-hip-hop joyride.
Critical Praise for Kokayi:
"Robots is Kokayi's Illmatic- a masterpiece that will surely be regarded as the artist's crown jewel, no matter what he records afterward." Rating: 93/100 - OkayPlayer
"Kokayi has created a sound that's entirely his own - a blend of rap, rock, electronica, R&B and whatever else he decides to throw into the mix and doing so with expert ease. If this album doesn't make a best of 2010 list, it would be a complete travesty. This release deserves not only deserves measurable acclaim, but also a place in anyone music lover's collection." Rating: 4/5 - Potholes In My Blog
