Located amid the rolling hills of central New York's Finger Lakes region, the natural wonders of this majestic American farmland make the site ideally suited for a festival - and Super Ball IX will be the first major music festival to be held at Watkins Glen International since 1973's legendary Summer Jam. Nestled at the southern tip of Seneca Lake, Watkins Glen is just a short drive from numerous major metropolitan markets.

Phish "Super Ball IX" A Three-Day Festival - video announcement:

Nearly fifteen years ago, Phish pioneered the concept of the single-artist music and arts festival with The Clifford Ball, held at a decommissioned Air Force base in upstate New York in August of 1996. Not only did Phish perform - they planned and orchestrated all the attractions featured at the event.

Rolling Stone observed: "it was definitely groundbreaking...there was a real story; that in an age of corporate sponsorship, this completely home-grown thing happened that was different from any other concert."

More festivals followed - The Great Went. Lemonwheel. Oswego. Big Cypress. It. Coventry. And, most recently, Festival 8 in Indio, CA.

Now the band looks forward to bringing this beloved tradition back to the Northeast.

Phish will also be kicking off its 2011 summer tour in New York, playing Bethel Woods Center for the Arts in Bethel over Memorial Day weekend. See below for itinerary. Ticket prices for each specific date on the summer outing will include a free MP3 download of the entire show (a fully mixed soundboard recording). Fans purchasing Super Ball IX tickets will receive a free download of each set the band plays during the event. They can be redeemed at LivePhish.com, where they'll be available shortly after Phish steps off stage.

Phish's 2010 outing was one of "25 Must-See Summer Tours" named by SPIN, which praised the band's "epic, musically adventurous shows" while Rolling Stone observed: "[Phish] delivered some serious rock bang for its recessionary buck...with music that taps into every aspect of their quarter-century career together." The Denver Post praised their return to Telluride, noting: "In what many consider the most anticipated show in recent years...Phish heartily rewarded its most lucky followers with a memorable mountain event that ranks on the very top shelf of the 27-year-old band's trophy case."

The band will release Two Soundchecks, a limited edition, 7-inch vinyl record that will be available exclusively at participating independently owned record stores beginning April 16th. Two Soundchecks marks the band's first-ever live vinyl record and their first release in conjunction with Record Store Day.
