Johnny Winter 2012 tour dates + new album - 'Roots'

Johnny Winter tour

Johnny Winter Named One of Rolling Stone's Top 100 Guitarists of All Time & Featured in Guitar World (Jan 2011) for New Album 'Roots' (Megaforce)

2012 US Tour Dates Confirmed including NYC Residency January 3, 10 & 24 @ BB King's

"For me, blues is a necessity," says Johnny Winter, named one of Rolling Stone's Top 100 Guitarists of All Time and featured in the January, 2011 issue of Guitar World.

Johnny, who continues to perform over 100 shows / year, will be on the road throughout 2012 - including a New York residency January 3, 10 and 24 at BB King's in support of his new album 'Roots' (Megaforce).

"Songs like his 1969 cover of "Highway 61 Revisited" are astonishing showpieces of his lightningfast thumb-picked electric slide playing," writes Rolling Stone. "Jimi Hendrix sought him out as a sideman, and Muddy Waters recognized his talent at first glance, becoming a friend and collaborator: "That guy up there onstage - I got to see him up close," Waters later said. "He plays eight notes to my one!"

In the December issue of Relix, the magazine asks Johnny about his favorite holiday gift: "Last Christmas, I was given an empty methadone capsule in a box. Without knowing it, I had been off it for a year." His favorite holiday show is the Simpsons Christmas Special.

"One of rock's most influential blues revivalists…Winter's guitar shimmers with confident energy throughout…All of the tracks on Roots are Saturday night foot-stompers that conjure up the glassy clinks of long necks and ding-dings of barroom pinball machines. Winter shows yet again that wailing the blues effectively demands sizzling focus and a wagonload of knowledge." - Wall Street Journal
