Viking Moses announces new album - 'The Conquest Night' out March 13
Featuring members of Deer Tick, Dirty Projectors; recorded by Paul Oldham
This March Viking Moses (AKA Brendon Massei) releases 'The Conquest Night', an album that tells an unusual story of two rural youths out past their curfew and the situations they get themselves into and out of along the way.
'The Conquest Night' is sister album to Massei's previous release,'The Parts That Showed' (2008), which received much praise for its lo-fi honesty and melodies so persuasive they seemed almost too good to be true.
'The Conquest Night' and 'The Parts That Showed' were recorded during the same two-day-long session at Paul Oldham's rural Kentucky studio.
Seven years after that session, 'The Conquest Night' will be available to eager audiences for the first time on March 13, 2012.
Known for sincere songs that outline love, loss, responsibility, deviance, joy and pain, Massei continues to consider life's milestones with his latest release. 'The Conquest Night' muses on the dangers and delights brought by breaking boundaries and forging new ground.
The countryside takes on new qualities as day turns to night: familiar horizons are lit by forest fires, abandoned houses populate the plains and wild dogs threaten 'The Conquest Night's' twilight world.
The album's sound echoes this lyrical focus as playful, dancy beats transform seamlessly into serious grooves. Massei's commanding voice ebbs from delicate whispers to throaty howls as this diverse, lucid album unfolds into the night air.
The four years since Viking Moses's previous release have seen Massei busier than ever. In addition to touring extensively, he has featured in a full-length documentary about his life and lifestyle as a touring musician - Werewolves Across America, and has founded The Epiphysis Foundation label, serving as manager and producer to over a dozen musicians.
