Charleston’s own The Fire Apes have been named the winner of Airspun’s September Alternative Rock AirGod competition. Every month, AirSpun.com features independent bands and artists from around the world in their AirGods new music polls. AirGods poll winners receive free radio showcases and other great opportunities such as inclusion in AirGods radio shows, podcasts, and more.
The Fire Apes continue to be a Powerpop/Indie group on the rise. Their original guitar-driven pop songs ring true with that affable sounds of pleasant 1960s jangle pop, and there’s often more behind those songs than what’s obvious.
Their current self-titled EP opens with “Hey Kate!”, a quintessential example of the perfect power pop song. The second track “If Things Don’t Look So Good Today”, whilst being slightly more mellow, has you hooked within seconds. “Only You Could Make Me Happy” returns to the more frenetic pace and just exudes great songmanship and sheer energy. The penultimate track “Killing Me From Inside”, opens like an homage to the Beatles’ “Strawberry Fields” and is an amazing track. “It’s Over” finishes off the EP with song writing that just shines.
