Acting Review for Freddy Bastone: DJ FREDDY BASTONE JOINS THE CAST OF THE SOPRANOS. Freddy Bastone, a successful DJ since the mid-80's and graduate of influential residencies at New York super-clubs like Danceteria, Studio 54 and Palladium, adds another notch to his creative belt with a role on HBO's notorious series, The Sopranos. One of the few old-school DJs to crossover into the mainstream - his few peers include Todd Terry and David Morales, he has remixed for such diverse acts as Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Judas Priest and Rod Stewart to (with partner Jeffrey Bernstein) Missy Elliot, Jennifer Lopez, Common, India.Arie and recently, Jamiroquai. Outside of the studio, he has kept busy DJing live remotes from clubs for WKTU and indulging his other passion, acting. With credits that include off-Broadway roles, voice-overs for Home Depot and Honey Crisps cereal, and guest appearances on "Third Watch" and "New York Undercover," he proved that it wasn't necessary to seek fame overseas like most of his peers. When asked if he will stop spinning and making records, he replies in the context of his new character, "I doubt it! It's in the blood…anyone who does this for a living will tell you…the music business is just like the Mafia, … you don't just get out!" Who knows, maybe he'll be able to sneak one of his deeper remixes onto the show in a nightclub or as an upbeat soundtrack to any one of the show's frequent "whacking" scene. (google freddy bastone)
