Sometimes you just can't predict these things, but unfortunately the unexpected and usually inevitable does happen: when one of the best local bands calls it a day. I say local band because Suitable Case For Treatment has been gigging here in Oxford for the last three years or so and then eventually they were fortunate enough to start playing outside of Oxford - London probably being one of the hot spots for any local band to be playing.
We feel like "we were there" when they were just starting out and then because they are as good as they are, beginning to make a name for themselves (even appearing on Channel 4's Richard and Judy with Jon Snow doing a voice over on their song 'Cow'!). I know I'm not alone in the way I feel - just go to their Myspace page or the local Oxford bands message board to read the confusion as well as support for a band that has captured the attention of most if not all of the musos in this town along with music lovers always able to feel pretty confident in knowing that if Suitable Case is playing they're not going to be let down.
Heavy, clever sounds and lyrics emit from Suitable Case For Treatment with a front man who commands the audience's attention with his preacher like vocals and evil eye.
As I write I'm hoping that they might reconsider...it's not everyday that a band with their sound and quality comes along, and then when they announce that they're breaking up to have a whole music community up in arms wondering 'Why?'
Okay, I know this isn't the first time this sort of thing has happened, and there are many towns around the world that can probably relate to the feelings of knowing that you may never see one of the best local bands play again...but is there any way you guys can work things out for crying out loud?
In the meantime why not check out Suitable Case For Treatment's video for their song 'Cow' featuring UK news presenter Jon Snow. If by the end of the video you too are scratching your head wondering why would a band like this break up, well, maybe you could leave a message of support on their myspace page! Also be sure to check out their tunes especially, my favorite, 'Wooga'.
