Nero - "Promises" #1 on the Official Singles Chart - watch video

Nero, aka North West London producers, remixers, DJs and artists Dan Stephens and Joe Ray, saw in the New Year as one of the BBC's 12 ones to watch in their prestigious "Sound of 2011" poll.

This week sees them claim their first Official Singles Chart #1 as their fourth single, the indie/dubstep "Promises", flies straight to the top of the new chart.

"Promises" follows previous Nero Official Charts hits "Me & You" which peaked at number 15 in January, "Guilt" which delivered their previous best Official Charts performance, peaking at number eight in April this year and their 2010 underground hit "Innocence".

"We'd been going since about 2004," recalls Joe Ray, "then suddenly we had this number 15 hit. Before that, we were expected to carry on being an underground, word-of-mouth thing. Suddenly we were being played on Radio 1 and everything changed."

Other highlights for the duo this year include headlining the WOW stage at Glastonbury and performing a specially commissioned piece Dubstep Symphony with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, simulcast live on BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 1Xtra.

Nero released their debut album Welcome Reality on August 15th on their fellow-artists Chase & Status' label MTA Records.

This October sees them embark on their debut live tour, headlining at London's Electric Ballroom, and going on to support Tinie Tempah on his forthcoming arena tour.

2010 found Nero winnning Beatport Awards for Best Dubstep Act and Best Dubstep track for "Act Like you Know," and receiving nominations for BBC's Sound of 2011, XFM's Sound of 2011, and Music Week's Top 15. All signs point to the fact that 2011 is shaping up to be just as exciting, with their debut album Welcome Reality.
