The Collectable Few release "Model Behaviour" single + video

The Collectable Few

The Collectable Few are set to release their second single, the thrilling "Model Behaviour".

Following the acclaimed debut "Headstrong", which gained support at the likes of 6Music, XFM and NME, the band will also play a selection of live shows nearer the single's release, namely a single launch at the London Borderline on December 3, 2011.

The Collectable Few are quickly turning industry heads with their taut and energetic take on guitar-based pop. They write songs that feel as infectious and familiar as they are immediately refreshing (and at a time when guitar bands continue to struggle, this can be no bad thing).

Friends from school, Nat Candor and Tom Christensen (on bass and guitar respectively) met Tarek Al-Shammaa in a West London pub. Nat and Tom had recently emerged from a failed teenage rock band (The Disarmed), which sounded, they acknowledge, like a "less-good Queens Of The Stone Age." Tarek, too, was essentially inbetween musical jobs: members of his then-band have since joined forces with the likes of The Macccabees, SBTRKT and Jack Penate. Al-Shammaa, though, was still stuck in the kitchen: half French and half Iraqi - his Dad came to the UK aged 18, as opposed to joining the army - Tarek trained and works as a chef. His signature dish consists of seared tuna with papaya, a salsa verde and confit duck salad.

Tom, Tarek and Nat, then, were all individually back to square one. Despite meeting by chance, the trio quickly hit it off, and soon recruited a drummer (Alex Hammond, originally from Philadelphia) to attempt a change in fortune.

Shared passions and all-new influences soon emerged: see the 80s pop of The Cure or Duran Duran, the tropical, rhythmic dance of Friendly Fires, and even the 'Blade Runner' soundtrack. Their band-name was lifted from a Jeff Buckley lyric, which - though not an audible influence - nonetheless encapsulated the collectable quality of songs they aspired to write.

London itself - or the wish to escape it - also proved to be an immediate inspiration, perhaps best incapulsated on the wry 'Glamour' (given the disco treatement here by Cassetti).

"Model Behaviour" itself, meanwhile, is again a reflection of urban anxieties, with its surging and confident chorus contrastingly nicely with a lyrical dig at social extroverts ("there's no truth in that model behaviour").

Recorded and produced in the capital, both tracks received long-distance mixing treatment from New York's Andrew Maury (Ra Ra Riot, Kisses, Static Jacks).
