Soda rock, Sodacon, Trifecta, Acoustica and more….

The brief and exciting history of Sodacon

There’s heavy rock, alternative, grunge, metal, and a myriad of other genres forming the pop rock scene, and now there’s Soda rock. Jesse David put together a collection of songs in 2005 and produced Sodacon “Getchar;” which combined heavy rhythms, intense dynamics, without the trendy use of screamo.

In 2006, Jesse went on a road trip to spend some quality time away from work and try to write some new material that would be catchy and inspiring for potential fans of this new style. Unfortunately, he did not succeed at that. :( However a result of his Pacific Northwest adventure was a few decent songs and an idea for the next Sodacon release called Trifecta. This was fitting because John Chatelain joined the effort in August and added some beefy undertone at bass with tremendous talent at vocals. Mike Barney came along in September and added his youthful vibe to the project with a fiery energy on drums.

Within a few weeks, they completed 20 songs and went on to record the Trifecta cd over the next four months. They also recorded “Acoustica” featuring 10 acoustic tracks with a heavy strum sound, utilizing John’s cello sounding stick bass.

It was a learning process for all involved. A few shows at Starbucks, Urban Lounge, and Liquid Joes, as well as some cd sales in the bank solidified Sodacon as a premiere group on the scene. At the same time Jess felt vindicated to find talented members that made the project click.

New “Little Scenesters”, stepping out on to the stage, yet ready to put on a great show, whether in a club, arena, or a coffee shop. Two sets, acoustic and electric, this is Sodacon.

One other thing, the show at the Circuit has been canceled. Join us instead on the 14th for an intimate acoustic style show at Alchemy Coffee or at Liquid Joes on the 18th. Will feature Cordoba classical guitar, John on his stick bass and Mike playing percussive drums.
