Melbourne band The Smoke is proud to present its new single Bury My Love.
The release is the band's first since their debut album Blood Orange. It marks the band's graduation from DIY, living room recording to the studio: Bury My Love was produced by legendary producer Lindsay Gravina.
The song is one of many the band has written and tested during a year of constant touring. Clocking at over four-and-a-half minutes, Bury My Love is a departure from The Smoke's typically tight song structures.
"It certainly doesn't conform to any pop formula," says singer Dane Robertson. "We enjoy the challenge of writing artful and interesting music within the limits of pop, but this one just seemed like it needed a little more room to breathe."
The song is possibly the most personal the band has written.
"Luke (Cartwright, guitarist) wrote it. He was lovesick for a few months there, it was never going to be, and this song was the result. The whole band sings on the chorus, and it's a lyric that you can sing with real conviction."
The Smoke will make its festival debut at Pyramid Rock over the New Year period. Robertson is excited.
"We've always wanted to play festivals. We're playing on December 30 on the main stage, at about 10:30 in the morning. We have a song called Good Morning Jack, which will be a fitting opener."
The Smoke is part of Triple J's Unearthed competition.
