Moby - The Day

Moby music video challenge launched with Saatchi & Saatchi and vimeo

"The Day was written in a hotel room in Spain at dawn when I hadn't slept. It was a beautiful hotel room, a beautiful perfect hotel room and it was six or seven in the morning. I wrote it on a acoustic guitar and recorded it on my phone, brought it home and re-recorded it with old broken down electronics that I have in my studio." - Moby

Moby announces the release of a new single, "The Day", taken from his upcoming new studio album, Destroyed being released May 17th.

Available now from all digital service providers, "The Day" is followed by the full remix bundle on May 10, 2011, which includes the original album track and remixes from Lifelike, Basto, Gesaffelstein, Eddie Thoneick and Funkerman.

"The Day" was indirectly inspired by David Bowie and Brian Eno's production which Moby believes is now part of his DNA; growing up, Moby had Low and Heroes spinning constantly on his turntable.

One of the few tracks from Destroyed that Moby sings on, "The Day" is a deeply personal song about late night desperation and dark night of the soul feelings usually associated with some terrible addiction; these themes are woven throughout the journey that his new album takes us on.

The official music video for "The Day" will premiere this week. The video, directed by Evan Bernard (Moby, Beastie Boys, Green Day), takes place in a hospital and features the actress Heather Graham as a nurse and guardian angel.

In support of young filmmakers, Moby is partnering with Saatchi & Saatchi and Vimeo on an exciting new video challenge as part of The 21st Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors' Showcase at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity 2011 happening June 19th - 25th.

The theme of this year's New Directors' Showcase is "Hello, Future" in which directors across the world are invited to visualize the concept of "Hello, Future" in the form of a standout music video inspired by one of the three tracks selected from Moby's new album, Destroyed, which are "Be The One", "The Day", and "After". The winner will be announced at this year's Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors' Showcase in Cannes on June 23rd as well as on the Vimeo website.

For entry guidelines and information on how to submit videos to the competition go to: moby.com or vimeo.com/saatchiandsaatchi. Closing date for submissions is May 9, 2011 at 11.59 GMT.

Moby releases Destroyed - album, book of photography

Also titled Destroyed and set for release on May 17th is a book of photography by Moby. The book takes us behind the scenes on an international journey with Moby, introducing us to the strange and disconcerting life of touring that is often not exposed; the time spent isolated in anonymous, mundane spaces like hotel rooms, airports, and backstage waiting areas.

These experiences are juxtaposed with moments and places of intense beauty in the world and the excitement and connection with audiences.

From the absurdly empty to the absurdly full, Moby captures the universal situation that so many musicians and artists undergo living nomadic lives. The combination of the album and book of photography, created while touring, provides an intimate look at Moby's world and his creative process.

3. The Day - Gessaffelstein Remix
