Singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist Joel Piper is an artist driven by his desire to connect.
From his start as the drummer/vocalist for hardcore band Confide, to his early solo work of electro-pop beats as Avery Pkwy, Joel has proven that this desire to express himself and relate to people through music is all encompassing.
Now, on his newest project as himself, Joel Piper, he's arrived at the genre closest to his heart: pop music. Joel makes his home inside a set of incredibly fun and emotive pop songs on the recently released 'The Only One' EP.
A much anticipated full length LP is set to hit in spring 2012!
'The Only One' debuted at #11 on the iTunes Pop Chart in the company of household names such as Rihanna, Justin Bieber and Maroon 5 and landed on iTunes coveted New and Noteworthy section where it has remained for weeks after its release.
Also, with no marketing or publicity except Joel's own social networks, 'The Only One' EP found itself on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart coming in at #40. No small feat for an independent artist and a true testament to his fierce and dedicated fan base.
While Joel toured the world with the popular underground hardcore band Confide, the Newport Beach, CA native constantly found himself writing pop music and dreaming about following his bliss of being a pop artist. This passion was wholly apparent in his first solo jaunt as Avery Pkwy.
When Confide broke up in late 2010 he decided to jump in head first and properly pursue his dreams and a career in pop music. Joel began collaborating with multi-platinum writing/production team Red Decibel (Adam Watts, Andy Dodd & Gannin Arnold) who understood his passion for pop and helped him to hone his skills.
'The Only One' has drawn comparisons to artists and genres as varied as the song-driven dance-pop of Katy Perry and the soulful sounds of Bruno Mars, but is distinguished by Joel's distinctive voice and hard hitting grooves that are equal parts pop, R&B, dance and rock.
Songs from 'The Only One' like "Gimme That Love Song" and "The Only One" show Joel's upbeat, playful side, whereas "My Little Earthquake" and "I Could Fall" show a musical and lyrical depth not often found in today's pop music.
