I was just getting ready to go to bed when just as I was about to shut down the computer there was a headline on Yahoo news, "Never-released Hendrix song to be sold at auction". Naturally being the Hendrix freak that I am I clicked on it and read that there is a song that Jimi Hendrix recorded in 1966 that hasn't been released and will be going to auction in New York in October. My first reaction to this was to wonder what Janie Hendrix will have to say about this and sure enough there she was being quoted in the article as saying that occasionally unknown songs recorded by her [step]brother did come to light.
"We have acquired most of these but there are still a few stragglers. I did not know about this one," Hendrix told Reuters.
"We will have to have discussions about this as there could be copyright issues."
Am I the only one who is getting sick and tired of how tightly she wraps her hands around his music? She wants complete control over who hears ANYTHING that Jimi Hendrix recorded . There is so much music out there to be heard that he created and yet she wants to be sure that it's all kept with her-and who knows if we will ever hear it. Luckily before she was in control of the Hendrix estate, there were plenty of bootlegs around to be had. Now however is a different story and I wouldn't be surprised that if you're caught with one you might end up in jail.
Do you know that the other day Janie Hendrix was in the news? Believe it or not she's decided to start a fashion line called The Jimi Hendrix Collection...and what will that fashion line include you might ask? Handbags.
I think I may have cried that night when I read the news.
