Space-rock cadets The Frontier Brothers will release their otherworldly debut full-length album ‘Space Punk Starlet’ October 2008. All fourteen tracks off of ‘Space Punk Starlet’ exemplify the band’s trademark sound perfectly, influenced by artists ranging from David Bowie to ELO to Wilco and layered with richly textured 80’s-style keyboards.
The Frontier Brothers “have a love for the pure pleasure of music-making” (Fort Worth Weekly) that has garnered them praise from music media outlets nationwide.
The band – composed of Marshall Galactic, Brett Moses, and Travis Newman – was pictured in SPIN Magazine alongside Phantom Planet, The Ravonettes and the Watson Twins as part of the issue’s “Bands on the Run” feature.
Vivien Goldman, feature writer for Mojo and Rolling Stone, writes, “The Frontier Brothers cover the wicked terrain between The Beach Boys and The Kinks with just a touch of mad Syd Barrett.” The band was also recently nominated as “Best New Artist” in Texas publication Fort Worth Weekly.
‘Space Punk Starlet’ traverses all manner of song: Bacharach-like piano-driven pop (”Take it For Love”), spastic rockers (”Ego Protection”) and country-style love ballads (”Plastic Bag”) – all underneath a science-fiction sheen.
The album’s title track could almost be a statement of purpose for the band, incorporating both a horn and string section, time signature changes and Galactic’s shattered vocals in his recollection that “I searched the stars and searched the bars for my space punk starlet.”
The album also contains “Everyone’s a Neutron Bomb,” which features unhinged guitar leads clashing against plaintive piano lines underneath the song’s enigmatic lyrics, which seem to evoke the feeling of love in futuristic dystopia. The album was recorded at Wire Recording in Austin by producer Stuart Sullivan (Sublime, Meat Puppets, Okkervil River).
The Frontier Brothers are officially ready to make contact with ‘Space Punk Starlet’ this October. People of Earth, prepare yourselves.
