Sundayrunners NEW ‘Tame Animals’ album

Sundayrunners

2005 Marked the release of the first Sundayrunners album and the band’s debut onto the national alternative rock scene. This Chicago based five-piece has played high energy shows at The Hideout, Schubas, Double Door and The Metro as well as national tour stops at the Viper Room in Los Angeles to Sin-e and Piano’s in New York and many other prime clubs and key music festivals in between. Sundayrunners quickly built an impressive fan base in the Midwest that looked forward to each and every show.

Now, Sundayrunners proudly present their sophomore release, ‘Tame Animals’, the exciting follow-up to 2005’s critically acclaimed, self-titled debut album Sundayrunners. This new 10-song release offers fans an album that boasts an unmistakable sundayrunners sound while putting a fresh spin on the tightly crafted power pop for which they’ve become known. This digital-only release is now available (July 1st, 2008) with a full artwork CD package to be released September 9th, 2008, which will be followed up with regional tour dates from the band in the fall.

‘Tame Animals’ features Randy Diderrich (vocals, guitar), Randy’s brother Rick Diderrich (bass), former Tobin Sprout (Guided By Voices) touring guitarist Mason Brown (vocals and guitar), along with Dan Reinholdt (drums) and Aaron Grant (keys). Diderrich describes this album as “more of a band album than the first CD”, and on ‘Tame Animals’ we see songwriting and lead performances from the rest of the band. Track three, “Bitter Patience,” introduces Brown on lead vocals, who has written and delivers lead vocals on four of these ten new tracks.

Several of the other offerings tell the true stories of losing a close friends to cancer and a tragic motorcycle accident as well as grade school fights that all have helped inspire the depth of their music. Giving a nice close to the album is a cover of power-pop-forefathers Big Star’s song “The Ballad of el Goodo” that seems to sum up the band’s never surrender attitude that was needed to overcome personal and professional challenges in the completion of this long awaited sophomore effort.

Sundayrunners already boast a hefty resume from their first album, having had their music featured on The OC, MTV’s The Real World, and VH1 shows as well as online advertising for Adidas Footwear. In addition, the band has received enthusiastic press from respected media outlets such as Paste Magazine, Billboard, the Chicago Tribune, and The Onion, among others.

With the release of ‘Tame Animals’, Sundayrunners will inevitably expand this impressive portfolio even further, and will be band to keep an eye on this year.
