Blues wasn’t born accessible. But Melbourne’s Whiskey Go Gos seem determined to transform the raw-boned Southern stomp of the genre into unabashed, sing-along pop music.
On their debut LP ‘Proud Tales To Them of Us’, out on Warner in Australia, lead singer Matt Hutchinson belts out the sort of stuff you can waste away with at the bottom of a bottle, or pump your fists to in a fit of glee. The beauty? It’s your choice.
Indeed, the duo’s tunes are hauntingly heartfelt, pub-uniting howlers – an endless stream of backwoods Americana effortlessly convincing everyone from Nokia, Billabong and Vice Magazine to take note.
“It’s gritty, dirty, bluesy rock ‘n roll” – Groupie Magazine
“Many aspects of what they do are indescribable. The blues, nay, GREAT blues is food for the individual soul, and I was completely stuffed by the time the Whiskeys had to go go” – Faster Louder
With a new album on the way, the Aussies are currently gigging in our two largest Metropolises, New York and LA. There’s a show in Los Angeles at The Echo on the 15th, and a return to New York for a Bell House performance on the 26th and a Death By Audio gig on the 29th.
