Mezklah Narrowly Escape with Their Lives at Texas Club Shoot-Out

(El Paso, TX) - On Friday night, June 19, 2009, Mezklah finished playing another one of their invigorating shows at Zeppelin's in the trendy neighborhood of Cincinnati in El Paso, TX. Also playing on a different stage at the same time was Cappadonna (composed of members of Wu Tang Clan).

However, almost at the end of their last song people started screaming and reacting to what seemed like an old-fashioned shoot-out, erupting just 100 feet from the stage.

Mezklah's Greg Hernadez says, "We heard a blast of gun shots and ran for cover. Initially, no one knew if the shots were inside or outside the club, it was that close."

And as if gun shots weren't enough, moments later the sound of a screeching car crashing into a telephone pole burned into everyone's ears. Police flooded the club and got everyone from Cappadonna's and Mezklah's audience into the street.

"Once we went outside we saw the car wrapped around the telephone pole with the body of a bloody man," says Hernandez. The driver was Ruben Troncoso, a reportedly suicidal man, armed with rifles, with a drinking problem (El Paso Times, "Officer shoots, kills driver near Cincinnati bars"). "We've played here many times, this is the first where we've encountered such an ordeal. Who knew the Wild West would come to El Paso?" continued Hernandez.

Mezklah is now returning to Los Angeles for their homecoming show at Mal's Bar on June 26th at midnight. This event, however, has not deterred Mezklah from playing future shows in the area. They are already scheduled to return on July 30, 2009 for a show at O2 Lounge in El Paso.
