The day has come once again for the Mercury Music Prize nominations and I'm so happy to see that the Guillemots are amongst the nominees for this years' prize! As I've written before, we have had the pleasure of knowing the Guillemots for awhile now, and watching them progress for the last couple of years or so has been quite a treat to say the least. It's amazing to see such great people and musicians doing so well with their music.
So the 2006 Mercury Prize nominees are....
Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not
Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan - Ballad Of The Broken Seas
Editors - The Back Room
Guillemots - Through The Windowpane
Richard Hawley - Coles Corner
Hot Chip - The Warning
Muse - Black Holes And Revelations
Zoe Rahman - Melting Pot
Lou Rhodes - Beloved One
Scritti Politti - White Bread, Black Beer
Sway - This Is My Demo
Thom Yorke - The Eraser
I must say the Guillemots are in pretty good company. We were lucky to be at the Top of the Pops where Muse and the Guillemots performed on the same day, so it's interesting to see them together here. Also, there's a Thom Yorke connection with them since he and another member of the Guillemots happen to be from Oxford.
While we wait patiently to find out who wins the prize on the 5th of September, why not watch the Guillemots performance on the Top of the Pops of their song Made Up Love Song #43:
