City Canyons Records special September 5 release of HIGH SCHOOL from The Alrights, a dynamic and exciting trio from Duluth, Minnesota debuts a unique sound that promises to take the world by storm.
The September 5th release, to select online distributors and to retail stores by special order, will be followed by national distribution beginning on October 17th. The release and subsequent national distribution will be supported by the Alrights with extensive touring throughout the mid-west and northeast bolstered by a full national radio and publicity program.
Formed in the summer of 2003, The Alrights (http://www.thealrights.com) create catchy, memorable, original material with songs varying in style from hip-hop soul to straightforward cutting edge rock and a wealth of influences in between that all meld into one compelling sonic treat. The components this sound are the rock solid presence of Chad “Chavo” Amborn on drums, the steady yet fluid, funky and emotional bass playing of Danny Cosgrove, and the richly creative song writing of guitarist and keyboardist Toby Churchill.
“City Canyons Records (http://www.citycanyons.com) heard this unique and delicious sound and decided that The Alrights were simply one of the best bands in the country,”says Trebor Lloyd, CEO of City Canyons Records. “Hop on board, America, these boys are bound for glory.”
To say the Minnesota trio The Alrights (http://www.myspace.com/thealrights) is diverse in their sound, might perhaps be like saying Mark Twain was good at writing. Whether you listen to the recordings or see the band live you will inevitably hear true diversity. One song is rock, another is soul influenced. One sounds like a spiritual, another punk. One may be smooth and exact with a lot of vocal harmonies and thoughtful arrangements, the next might be raw, almost garage. Whatever form it takes, the music is superb and marks the band as one of the best young alternative rockers in North America.
And the diversity not a gimmick. It’s just what lead vocalist and guitarist/ivory tickler Toby Churchill feels like doing. His lyrics for the bands tunes are no less diverse. Some are about love or carnality and some are about death and non-existence, though pretension is kept at bay with some silly numbers like a birthday song for the universe and hard core fans of the group are well aware of whom Churchill considers to be the greatest running back of all-time.
